Who the **** cares, at the end of the day, you still live in Florida, one of the few states worse than Illinois.

Issued by The National Weather Service

Chicago, IL

11:38 am CST, Mon., Jan. 31, 2011

... BLIZZARD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON...

A BLIZZARD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON.

* TIMING... SNOW WILL INCREASE IN INTENSITY AND BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 80 TUESDAY AFTERNOON... GRADUALLY SPREADING NORTH INTO NORTHERN ILLINOIS BY TUESDAY EVENING. SNOW... HEAVY AT TIMES... WILL CONTINUE TUESDAY NIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY MORNING. SNOW SHOWERS WILL CONTINUE NEAR LAKE MICHIGAN IN NORTHEAST ILLINOIS WEDNESDAY MORNING... SHIFTING INTO NORTHWEST INDIANA DURING THE AFTERNOON. NORTHEAST WINDS OF 25 TO 40 MPH WITH STRONGER GUSTS WILL RESULT IN BLIZZARD CONDITIONS DEVELOPING TUESDAY EVENING AND CONTINUING THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT HOURS.

* ACCUMULATIONS... SNOW ACCUMULATIONS IN EXCESS OF A FOOT ARE EXPECTED OVER MUCH OF THE WATCH AREA FROM TUESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. LOCALIZED TOTALS IN EXCESS OF 18 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE... ESPECIALLY NEAR THE LAKE.

* HAZARDS... WHITE-OUT CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED AT TIMES TUESDAY NIGHT AS VERY HEAVY SNOW AND STRONG WINDS RESULT IN BLIZZARD CONDITIONS. SNOWFALL RATES OF AT LEAST 2 TO 3 INCHES PER HOUR ARE POSSIBLE... ESPECIALLY WITH ANY THUNDERSTORMS THAT OCCUR.

* IMPACTS... CONDITIONS WILL RAPIDLY DETERIORATE FROM NORTH TO SOUTH ACROSS THE REGION TUESDAY AFTERNOON... WITH TRAVEL LIKELY BECOMING VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE AT TIMES TUESDAY NIGHT INTO EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING. SNOW IS EXPECTED TO FALL SO HEAVILY AT TIMES TUESDAY NIGHT THAT PLOWS WILL BE UNABLE TO KEEP UP WITH THE SNOW... WITH MANY SIDE STREETS AND UNTREATED ROADS BECOMING IMPASSABLE.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A BLIZZARD WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR FALLING AND BLOWING SNOW WITH STRONG WINDS AND EXTREMELY POOR VISIBILITIES. THIS CAN LEAD TO WHITEOUT CONDITIONS AND MAKE TRAVEL VERY DANGEROUS AND POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING.

LOL This will probably turn out like every other over-dramatized snow storm.

That was my first response to my boss that said we could work from home, I said it was probably fear mongering and I"ll wait to see what happens. Chicago hasn't really been hit by a big storm this year, but I expect unlike those east coast pussies, no matter what happens, things will be somewhat normal for the most part after the initial blast.

Possible flooding on Lake Shore Drive from waves

http://www.suntimes....ather-area.html

That's funny because I'm lookign at the window at the lake right now and all I see is ice... maybe ripples further out. I know it's still a ways away, but this fear mongering is everything that is wrong with the media. I don't mind the message to make sure we are all prepared, but man, this is getting out of control.

And on a side note.... FUUUUUCCCCKKK I just remembered I have packages that are supposed to be delivered today tomorrow and wednesday. And I mean to my door by fedex, UPS, or USPS, not in a G-string.

Some of it is media, but some of it is actual weather predictions. Maybe the high winds will break up the ice. I don't know.

If the winds they are predicting do hit us, there will be some pretty serious waves hitting the lakeshore. That ice only goes out for a short distance from shore, and most of that ice is no more than an inch or so thick. E/NE winds in excess of 40-50 MPH is bad news for most of the IL lakeshore. Those waves will have the entire lake to build up before hitting the shore. Shit, we already got hit with some really nasty waves in the middle of December when that storm blew through.

Just listened to Tom Skilling on WGN 720 and he said the new models show the band of 18-30" trending to be right over Chicago. Expected 14-24" for the suburbs and rising according to him.

Apparently they had a press conference a few hours ago urging employers to keep their employees at home.

Yeah I get all that, but when is the last time that a storm has hit that has actually been as bad as predicted? The only time that I can remember there being a storm big enough to shut things down, it came out of no where. The assholes. Luckily, I went to Costco saturday, and jewell yesterday, we are set for the long haul. NOw I just pray we keep power.
