I don't mean to alarm ya, but I just read the news about the FDA warning about dog jerky treats. Have you given your dog any of those?

Maybe it is sick, maybe not. It could be depression too. I had a dog that once went depressed, the vet said the dog was healthy. But it was obviously happy to be out, see new people(the vet, other dogs at the vet), ect, which makes it hard to diagnose. You can walk a dog so much, and give it so much attention, treats ect. At some point you just have to run down a list of activities that are more common for that breed, see if you're missing anything important. In our case, we got the dog a cat to play with, because the breed I had carried a sense of nurturing that didn't bode well with the highly independent people that it lived with.

Did you feed a cat to your dog to ease its depression?

On a serious note, he's just upset that the Bears lost. If he doesn't pull around by Friday, call the Vet.

lil ******* not eating his food and looks like hes droppin some weight. the wife has fed him some table scraps pretty frequently for the first time in his life is this the cause or is he possibly sick? just curious has anyone else went through this? im thinkin the scraps spoiled his ass but then again im worried he may be getting sick. I meen his food dish was full for three days he wouldn't eat then we start worrying she gives him a plate of scraps and he eats just fine

Could be because of the table scraps. My dogs always eat their own food until someone feeds them something from the table. Then for a few days they want nothing but w/e is on the table. Eventually they get hungry enough that they go back to their own food..

Years ago we had a German Shepherd. One day we left the house. We came back and everything looked normal...We fed him and he wasn't interested in eating..This went on for 2 days, and I was about to take him to the vet. He was in the back yard, and I noticed him straining to take a dump..I went out in the back yard, and there was this clear plastic coming out his ass...I grabbed a glove from the garage and gave it a pull...Turns out, it was a clear plastic bag that comes on your dry cleaning. He must have nosed open the closet door in the bedroom and ate the bag off one of my suits for work. We found remnants of the bag in the back of the closet. It was the funniest thing. There was this 100lb dog with a plastic bag hanging out his ass. Lucky it never became serious...The minute I yanked that bag out of his rectum, he went in the house and ate a bowl of food. That was the end of any suits being hung up with the bag still on em

Lol that is funny... good thing the dog was ok.

My Dad's dog used to rip apart any toy you gave her as a puppy and one time she did this and ate the squeaker she found inside, got lodged in her somewhere and they had to surgically remove the squeaker.

Dog hasn't ripped up any toys lately has he hbkrusso?

Sounds like a plan.... I would consider trying to go to a scheduled routine for feeding him too.

My mom's dog gets 2 cups in the morning for breakfast and another 2 cups 8-10 hours later for dinner.... and when food is coming he gets excited.

Now we have always given him treats and scraps from the table, but he never misses out on his own dog food... even if he gets fed while people food is getting served he will scarf his food down and then come beg for his treats.

Idk, I have always found the schedule thing better cause the dog can't overeat, food doesn't sit there and get stale, and they usually get excited to eat so getting them to scarf down the dog food is no problem.

My dog stopped eating a few years back. We free fed him and he would eat only til he was full prior to that. I looked up the food online. Wen I first got it, it was top of the line. However a month before he stopped eating, a giant corporation bought the pet food company and completely ruined the formula. Added a bunch of crap and filler to it. I switched it up and he started eating again immediately. I would definitely try switching it up. The pet store should have free samples of many good brands. Try a couple and see if he goes for any of em. I was going to say try salmon oil, but if he is not eating because there is something bad in the food, best not to cover it up to trick him into eating it. Good luck!

If his weight loss gets to 10% of his body weight definitely get him to the vet and have bloodwork done.

And to AuCN's point, don't go cheap on the food. We've had two bulldogs and they got nothing but Nutro Natural. It's between $45-$55 for a 40lb bag, but they never had any digestive problems.

dogs tend to eat grass when there is a intestinal issue. if you take it out watch to see if it goes right for the grass. dogs do like to play their owners as I have been played so many times. keep us posted.
