I'd be surprised if it's anybody but Trubisky. With no pre-season games, it makes it hard to lose your job to somebody you haven't seen before in your system without taking reps against an opposing defense.
I think Waddle is right. You can always go with Foles later if Trubisky sucks the first two games, but you might not be able to get away with benching the #2 draft pick, and then bring him back into the starting lineup a few games into the season without completely shattering his confidence.
Again, why are you guys worried about the psyche of the backup quarterback?
Either it was a competition or it wasn’t. If Foles wins the competition but doesn’t start, every guy in that locker room will know, and Nagy’s ass will be grass.
Not to mention, Nagy is not going to purposely start 0-2/1-3 with his job on the line just on the off chance that Trubisky gets it over the next couple of games, when he’s shown ZERO evidence of that.
By the way, Waddle did not say that. He actually railed against that line of thinking and said the best guy should start, no matter who it is. There should be no such thing as Foles “not winning by enough,” he said.
