"Nagy suggested the announcement could occur between Monday and Wednesday of next week."

Labor Day announcement?

Ya'll keep dismissing he Lions, I love it...

I actually have alot more respect for the Lions coming into this season than I've had for them in a long time. Stafford was playing really well before his injury last year. They added some nice pieces to the OL, got an explosive RB in Deandre Swift, and most impressive to me signed some really talented guys on the defensive side:

Nick Williams is a really good underrated signing and I was bummed to see him leave the Bears.
Jamie Collins has been a solid and productive Linebacker
Danny Shelton, Desmond Trufant, Jayron Kearse, Reggie Ragland, Jayron Kearse all seem like great signings to round out a roster.
Jeff Okudah is a top notch corner

Heck, we could barely beat the Lions last year and that was with their backup QB playing in both games. If Stafford is healthy for the entirety of the season and plays at the level he did to start out last year, I could definitley see the Lions doing some damage. I still think they are a year or two away from outright winning the division, but I could see them pushing for 2nd. The division is much closer than the general perception. It will be a dog fight. I think any team can end up in 4th and am not penciling anyone there at the moment.

Division games are always hard no matter what.

I still feel confident against the lions and vikings, because until proven otherwise they have performed poorly against our squad.

I do think if staff is healthy he can pose a threat, but you would expect some rust with the time off and facing one of the leagues top 3 D's.

We don’t like the Lions. Doesn’t mean we are dismissing them. It’s an NFL game in the division. It won’t be easy.

For me, while I think the Vikings are the better overall team, I actually feel more confident in beating them than I do the Lions. Kirk Cousins always plays like s*** against us, they lost Stefon Diggs, and Dalvin Cook has averaged around 30 yards per game when he plays us. They do have a good defense, but we have a superior one. We just need to get to 17-20 points and we win.

At least with the Lions, Matt Stafford will sling it around enough to keep it close and close any gaps in the score. Then, if you couple him with Deandre Swift and a nice defense, to me it can be a tougher matchup.

Again, why are you guys worried about the psyche of the backup quarterback?

Either it was a competition or it wasn’t. If Foles wins the competition but doesn’t start, every guy in that locker room will know, and Nagy’s ass will be grass.

Not to mention, Nagy is not going to purposely start 0-2/1-3 with his job on the line just on the off chance that Trubisky gets it over the next couple of games, when he’s shown ZERO evidence of that.

By the way, Waddle did not say that. He actually railed against that line of thinking and said the best guy should start, no matter who it is. There should be no such thing as Foles “not winning by enough,” he said.
I agree, best man should win, but what I'm saying is that if there is no clear cut winner before week 1—and neither quarterback is really standing out over the other one—I'd be surprised if they went with Nick Foles. I think you default to what's most comfortable, or the conservative approach, which would be not to change quarterbacks and hope for the best.

Again, this is all predicated on neither quarterback taking command of the job in training camp. From reports I've seen, it sounds like it's been a rollercoaster for both.

I am genuinely interested to know if there has ever, in the history of the nfl, been a head coach who has suddenly rebounded in year 4 of their tenure after winning three less games then the prior year each of his first three seasons AND had so many players that left during their tenure trash them.

I agree, the lions are more talented than many are giving them credit for. But they are a losing streak from imploding. I think they need a new coach to correct that ship
