The funniest line you'll hear a commentator say this year: "World Peace denied!"

Pau Gasol is a better player than Amare Stoudemire.

I can't stand the people who say that Amare is the best PF in the NBA. There are plenty with a case over him.

I missed it, who said Stat was better than Gasol? Amare's the best all-around athlete of the star PFs, but Gasol fit into any configuration and can create a lot more opportunities. Once Blake is more than a dunk artist with hops, he'll take that spot from Amare, but right now, they both lack Dirk's technical game and Garnett's ability to be a floor general from the frontcourt.

In today's NBA, the supreme athletes get all the credit for being the best. While the most skilled players mostly go unsung.

Too many casual fans I hear saying Amare is the best PF- a lot of them being NYK fans. Blake should be the best PF in no time. KG, I'd say, is still the best defensive PF, but his rebounding and offense has started to fall off far.

If I were to go in order of best PFs, I'd say:
1. Nowitzki
2. Griffin
3. Gasol
4. Stoudemire
5. Aldridge
6. Love
7. Randolph

KG might be as high as #4 on that list if he could play effectively for as many minutes as the others, but he can't anymore. He's pretty interchangeable with Bosh to me right now.

griffin should be lower, like below stoudemire

between stoudemire and gasol its a tough choice but i'd go with gasol's fundamental ability...best feet and the game..his size, rebounding, and better D(though i think amare's D isnt terrible either)

Why doesn't Josh Smith get more love? Seriously, he does more nitty gritty than any PF in the NBA, or any SF in the NBA.

Maybe the market he plays in. The Hawks don't get much national exposure.

The reason I like Griffin more than Stoudemire is mainly because of his dominant rebounding and his better facilitating ability than Amare. He's not as good of a scorer and maybe not even as impacting on defense. But he's not far off.

Maybe, but damn. Everyone sleeps on the Hawks and they say stupid crap like "OMG, a very young team can't get out of the second round." Well no shit, they have 1 star at his peak and 2 entering their primes.

Josh Smith would be close to the top 10 of PFs for me. He still doesn't have a natural position. He seems more like an ideal off the bench guy than anything. He has the ball-handling and play-making ability of some SGs while having the ability to defend the rim better than about every 4-man and a lot of 5-men. He has nice handling skills for a 3 on offense, but he's not a very good shooter at all for that position offensively. Defensively, he is not the best defender on the low-post; he's better when he is allowed to roam and play help-side defense out of the lane. And he isn't very good offensively as a 4 because he can't really back anybody down. And he's an undersized rebounder at that position.

I really thought Josh Smith didn't get enough attention the year he was drafted. I knew he would be an athletic stud.

He can defend the post with the best in the NBA. We don't exactly live in an era with a ton of post presence. Al Jeff is considered to be the best posting big.... not because he's great, because nobody else is that consistent! Hell, Josh Smith is the best defensive player not named Howard, but he's under-rated to all hell. /outrage!

He never struck me as an elite on-man defender in the post. He contests shots well but he tends to roam off of his man a lot. That, and a lot of PFs have a pretty easy time backing down Josh Smith. There's no denying his great upside on defense though. He can guard both forward positions very well and helps against the center and jumps/reaches out in passing lanes. It's more the offense that bothers me. In transition, he's great. But he doesn't have a natural position at all on offense.

there was a lot of hype surrounding Smith 4 years ago when he was younger.

But he hasn't improved at all. He's still wildly inconsistent, takes dumbass shots at the worst times, pouts/whines a lot, doesn't have a high basketball IQ, poor free throw shooter, etc.

He plays off of his athleticism. He's a good defender, but when he goes against true PF's like Gasol, Amar'e, Bosh, etc he struggles.

I like him better at SF [and Horford at PF].

I just don't think Smith is really good enough to be getting a lot of love.

hell, If Taj gibson got 35 MPG, he's get the #'s smith gets too.

J-Smoove is flawed. At the 4, I like him on defense but I don't like him as a reliable rebounder. He is a nice face-up scorer at the 4 on offense but he has a pretty low-IQ game in a half-court set. I love him as a transition offensive 4-man though.

At the 3-spot... too much of an offensive liability.

that's for any position he plays. unless he's dunking the ball, he's always taking dumb shots. He should just stop shooting outside of 10 feet all together.

Yeah. At least when he is playing the 4 on offense, he doesn't need to be able to shoot from outside. As a SF in the NBA, you need three-point shooting range to be a serious starter. At least at the 4, (assuming he was playing next to a great rebounder at the 5, he could work as a nice starter because of his defense turning into transition offense.
