NBA talks start again
Both sides want a season, and the Christmas day games.

By: ESPN News Services
November 23rd, 2011

Negotiations aimed at ending the NBA lockout resumed Tuesday with a specific goal at the heart of the talks -- to end the 146-day impasse in time for games to begin on Christmas, The New York Times reports.

The newspaper cited two people close to the talks in its report Wednesday. Yahoo! Sports also is reporting on the talks, which are continuing Wednesday.

According to The Times, the talks are taking place through lawyers representing both sides because of pending litigation -- different groups of players filed separate lawsuits in California and Minnesota last week.

NBA owners locked out the players on July 1, and the labor strife has forced games to be canceled through Dec. 15.

The NBA said Wednesday that "it remains in favor of a negotiated resolution (to the lockout)." The league declined to further comment.

Christmas games generally are considered the launching pad for the NBA's national TV schedule. There are three games on the Dec. 25 schedule: the Boston Celtics at New York Knicks at noon ET on ESPN, and an ABC doubleheader featuring an NBA Finals rematch between the Miami Heat at the Dallas Mavericks (2:30 p.m.) and the Chicago Bulls visiting the Los Angeles Lakers (5 p.m.).

My initial reaction?

:fap:

I really think a deal is going to get done to be honest.. I thought it would be done 2 weeks ago.. then 2 weeks before that.

3rd time the charm?

But I also think there's a good chance of nothing happening

I sincerely doubt this means anything. This lock-out will continue until the players piss themselves and realize that they hold no power that will ultimately get them their way.

wow glad they are talking in fear of sponsorship and not wanting to do it for the fans.

i think its good to be cautiously optimistic but also at the same time very skeptical..

so you know there's hope..but you doubt anything will actually get done

and really thats my approach..i really dont think there will a compromise until the full ramifications of the lockout, i.e. a completely lost season, are taken into full effect

but things could certainly go a different way

I'm still saying the NBA ain't happening this year. Not as long as the owners blame the players for not doing their own due dilligence and signing bad players to ridiculous contracts.

Yeah doubt there will be the Christmas day triple header...sucks. I love watching those games, especially since the Bulls got put back on that list.

The owners hold the cards. The more time that passes, the more the players will realize this.

The key thing about these talks is the lawyers are leading everything. Billy Hunter & Derek Fisher have bumbled themselves into a corner on this. Fisher has already been cut out of these discussions. Hunter is just a bystander. Let the lawyers do their lawyer-dry, & maybe something happens.

The owners and players should spend there millions and billions on building more soup kitchens for christmas so they can see what life is like for those who won't have meals on christmas....Then after that, they should give all of us fans free tickets for the remainer of what is left of the season.....

Play the season for charity. **** the NBA.

BASKETBALL!!! Need it at some point. I just really don't have any confidence in them getting a deal done soon.
