A neutral writer would be horrible as the writer would be disengaged and it would reflect in the writing and thus result in disengaged readers.

Maybe DB means be fair?--like be critical of the "core" of this team as much as the new "stand-ins" we have as they deserve plenty of criticism.

Or maybe I'm completely wrong.
