I tried this and it did not help. I had already downloaded the newest version of iTunes.
That is what happened to mine. You have to update the software on your ipod. Because the ipod now isn't being recognized by itunes.

I found this on the internet. But I don't understand what they are saying. Can someone translate for me. It's becoming too techy for me.

This is what they said"

"Hi, I had this problem also. It would not show up on iTunes or windows explorer. I tried the select/menu reset to no avail. Then I tried disk management under the computer management in control panel. The partition didn't have a name or letter but it did show the memory, however it wouldn't let me assign a letter either. Next I found the device in the device manager under disk drives and I disabled then reenabled and still didn't work. By now I was pulling my hair out and ready to give up. I had one more try and looked further down the list in storage volumes and there it was disabled. I reenabled it and everything is fine now. I didn't expect to see the ipod listed as a devce and a storage volume but there it was. Hope this helps someone else.."

1. From the the Start menu, choose Run.

2. In the box, type services.msc. Click OK.

The Services browser will open and display a list of all of the background services installed on your computer.

With a screen similar to this....

3. Scroll down to Terminal Services.

4. Double-click Terminal Services to view its properties.

5. From the Startup type pop-up menu, choose Manual.

The box that appears will be similar to this......

6. Click Apply and then click OK.

7. Reboot the computer with the iPod connected.

Windows should now recognise it!
No offense, but there is absolutely no reason for the iPOD to need Windows Terminal Services. Not even on the same plain as far as functionality and service use.

Bri, the core iPod/iTunes service is simply the iPod service. It needs to be active for the communication.

Is your issue more that you cannot see the iPod load via Windows Explorer (try browsing to it), or that the iPod does not sync with iTunes (will be both if the prior does not work)?

Biscuit I think that she updated itunes and now the ipod is out of sync. I had the same problem so I updated the ipod software which I had never done before and then my ipod was recognized again.

But it didn't work before I updated iTunes. the reason I updated iTunes was because I thought that might be the problem.

I have the ask the basic question here, did you try a different USB port(s) to see if the iPod can be seen by Windows Explorer?

Is anyone good at the albums part of itunes? All my albums are fine except for one band. I downloaded a torrent of all the band's live material. The songs play fine and everything but when I try to group them together by album and make the album name more appropriate it automatically goes back to the original title when I click on a song on one of those albums. Everything in the get info is the same for the songs on these albums but they continue to think on their own and go back to normal. Anyone know what I'm talking about? This is highly annoying as I am extremely anal about my albums on iTunes. Any help would be much appreciated. I am using a mac.

Bri/et al: My advice is when you feel the need to upgrade, you can easily find an mp3 player or even a phone that works with a simple drag/drop and is not horribly locked into bloatware.
If you need video, I have a sony Mp3/video player (the model escapes me right now) its 12gb, and I love it.

You know apples products are really nice, I will admit a product with great features which they have. But really, wtf cant they make the communication between the Computer and the ipod simpler. Every MP3 player ive used operated just like a thumb drive, drag and drop, simple.

this requires to to go into computer management, and screw around with the drives. You could **** up your HDD's if you dont know what your doing. I suppose enabling a disabled drive cant hurt. what version of windows do you have? I can try and walk you through it.

Apple products work seamlessly with other Apple products.

Just sayin'.

I've had an Ipod since the color came out and I never have any problems like others are having.

My collection is only about 1k songs as I don't download them off the internet (usually part of the problem right there).

Sure, but why drop 2 grand on a mac I could buy in PC form for half the price.

Take bubbleheads thread, whatever he ends up spending, theres no way he could get a mac with equivilent power for that price period.

THAT is what I dont get about the Mac Advertizements, I just dont see what is so difficult and un-user friendly about a PC as they claim.

Furthermore if another mac user tells me "its like the only computer you'll ever need" again, Im going to buy a gun and shoot them. That is the biggest line of bullshit ever invented, if that were the case, why arent all mac users using the first gen mac, probably because it could barely run pong, its subject to the same obsoletion as the PC.

That happens when you first put them on iTunes. Whenever I get a new concert you gotta change it before its uploaded to iTunes. Same with the whole order of songs which always gets fucked. If you still got the files, just delete them from iTunes and change it in your file directory.

You'll need this: http://www.unrarx.com/

Then its kind of complicated from there, but once you do it you can download every Dead and Phish song available on the internet.

I just realized I actually do have unrarx. But, that program is for actually downloading the files, I'm having trouble renaming the files. For example, I have Live Phish 1. But the way it was downloaded was in a 2 CD format so everytime I try to make them one album, it goes back to the 2 CD format immediately. GOD THIS SUCKS. I have had this problem for years and I still can't figure it out.

So it says

With [Disc 1] next to set 1:

Suzy Greenberg

Llama

Horn

Foam

Makisupa Policeman

Split Open and Melt

Tela

Taste That Surrounds

My Sweet One

Frankenstein

[Disc 2]

The Curtain >

Tweezer ->

Timber (Jerry) ->

Tweezer ->

Keyboard Army

Halley's Comet ->

NICU ->

Slave to the Traffic Light

Bold As Love

For all the Live Phish from the actual SBD I got, its all the same date, the only difference is in the Disc# tab next to artist showing what disc its on. So your problem is that the two Discs can't be put together in one album?

@ PSR: Yep.

All their live albums are 2 or 3 CDs. But I'd like them to be combined into one because that way there is only one album instead of two or three for the same concert. (So the end of disk 1 flows seamlessly into disk 2) If it helps -- when I go to the folder that I downloaded these albums with, when I click on the songs and click "get info" the songs on the first cd say CD1 and the songs on the second cd say CD2 at the title portion of the get info. So if i could get in there and change that to keep it the same for both disks, I think it would work, only problem is I have no idea how to do that.
