Neil Peart is Dead

Been a Rush fan for years but never got to see them live. He was an incredible drummer.
I have no idea what lyrics he wrote or which songs they were. Were they controversial?

His early lyrics were based on the inspiration he got from the writings of Ayn Rand. The song Anthem was after a book by her of the same title.

He was a good lyricist actually, it was just his content I found juvenile at times. He outgrew it though.

Whinger? Piss off. He died. He made great songs. I’ve witnessed a lot of legends dying throughout the years and couldn’t care less what they were reading and practically apologize for recommending the music but...psst...the lyrics suck politically. There are any number of artists I would disagree with politically that I love their songs and enjoy their lyrics and communication of political ideas.

I could see why people wouldn't like Rush (Geddy Lee's not great voice), but I'm a fan. I'm generally pretty forgiving when it comes to music. If I don't like something, it probably really sucks. Like country.
