Me and my wife still have our 7 year old Galaxy S3's. I know....
They work so we've just kept them. Anyways, I saw our phone bill yesterday (Sprint) and it's $177/month for just the two of us. WTF.
We'll probably just stay with some type of Galazy again, but can anyone recommend a good carrier? My wife gets a 25% off with Sprint but the service is just so-so.

I'm with Verizon and they rape me do to having one of the last truly unlimited plans. Great dependable service, expensive though.

I'm on Verizon, two phones with six gigs (paying monthly for the phones) and insurance.... 180 a month... Great service, works pretty much everywhere, but it's expensive. Of course that bill includes the phone payments though.

We don't use much data, and if we did it probably wouldn't work out so well, but MetroPCS is $30 per line, unlimited talk and text and 5 gbs of data. We got Galaxies, with rebate, for about $40 apiece. Only had them for about 10 months and we've almost always been in urban areas, but they've pretty much always worked.

That sounds like a great deal. Are you in IL? We haven't found anything near those prices but I haven't checked Metro yet.

No bought the phones and got the plan in Ohio and now in Texas, but iirc it was a national deal.

I used to be with sprint had a family plan unlimited everything for 200 a month. My area sprint barely works not enough towers. I'm now paying double with Verizon and unlimited nothing but at least my phone works now. Idk if there is a way but see what people review the best service is for your area you might be able to save not going with Verizon

I'm missing something, why would anyone pay more than $50 a month?

Straight Talk is $45 a month and that includes 5GB of data. I also believe you can keep your phone and your network.

Verizon offers a $45 unlimited plan if you choose more than one line (up to 4) and I believe they guarantee you something like 22GB before they might scale you back.

I use a ton of data so if I were to go with a current unlimited plan it would suit me because they scale back your data speed once you reach your limit.

That must be it, I don't use a lot of data, I have no idea what my limit is or if I've ever reached it. Wifi at home and work, I don't stare at my phone when I'm out.

I have a strictly business cell phone, + hotspot device for mobile work, and my wife are on a Verizon plan. My personal phone plan, both our parents are on T-mobile. As soon as my contract with Verizon is up, I'm going to switch everything to T-Mobile, Ting, or MetroPCS(all use the T-Mobile network). I was on Voicestream/T-mobile in the 90s until 2002ish and had problems galore, that's why I went to Verizon for the longest time. Now that is not the case. I get identical signal and coverage T-mobile in the Chicagoland area, better data speeds, and the service price is a bajillion times better. We moved back to T-Mobile about 14 months ago and had a Sprint plan beforehand for three phones. Sprint wasn't terrible, but we still had outage areas! Plus GSM phones are much more available. Buy anything unlocked, activate, swap sims, etc. That is one freedom I miss when using CDMA networks.

Dunno if that helps you at all. Just talk with neighbors, see how they are doing. Keep in mind, shitty phones still have signal issues, even in 2017 the market still has cheaply designed network SoCs. Good luck.

Thanks for the great suggestions guys. We'll probably be switching tomorrow, but still open for more ideas.

I don't use a lot of data on a normal basis, but during football season I use a shit ton to watch some of the games on my phone when I'm not home. A little bit during baseball season too when I want to catch the Cubs.
