I have gone the route of Crys. I have no cell phone anymore. No cable anymore. Life is once again interesting.

All you High Tech guys are gonna get a laugh at this

This is the phone I use..I have a 15 minute monthly package from Verizon, and usually use half of that. I have never taken a pic with it either...lol

I miss my old Motorola flip phone terribly, could be dropped from 3 stories up and survive/submerged in water etc.

Google just bought them out, now all they make are shitty touch screens.

BearsBud.... if it works for you man, thats great.

I am a tech junkie but I did not have a smart phone until 2 years ago... I started working and paying my own phone bill so I upgraded and got a data plan.

I like being able to do lots of stuff on my phone.... e-mail on my phone got me out of a contract on a house I was going to buy and got me into a contract on my current house which was a way better deal. My phone keeps me entertained on the train and keeps me connected to information anywhere I go.

I don't look down on anyone who does not want or need a smart phone, but it irritates me when the older generations talk shit about technology like smart phones, tablets, laptops, etc as though the tech is purely stupid blinking lights for kids.... lol then they adapt 4 years after the curve and use said tech.... it wasn't long ago that my parents were saying texting was stupid or smartphones are too expensive cause internet on your phone is dumb.... now they use/pay for all of those things.

I pulled the trigger on the Note 3. I like it so far but also miss some things about my iPhone. I'll just have to wait until the bigger iPhone comes out and I'm due for an upgrade. I didn't think I would use the S pen but it's become one of the better features about the phone for me.

From the tl;dr department:

Same boat I'm in, I guess. My last smartphone was a Blackberry Tour from US Cellular. I got it when it was released in Oct 2009. I forget what I paid, probably $200 or something. On BF weekend that year (and a couple of other years, I think), USCC had all phones free. BF was outside of the 30 days for returning mine. But I called well within my 30 days and asked about getting the BF deal, and they gave it to me (technically, if they refused, I could've just returned it and re-bought it on BF weekend).

So I was rocking that for years. I was eligible to upgrade spring 2011. I was out of contract fall 2011. I kept using the BB even though it was woefully inadequate. It was great for e-mail…shit for apps, surfing the web. There was no phone I really wanted, so I kept using it. USCC never got cool phones. If they did it was a year after they were out on other carriers, so it was old news. I almost pulled the trigger on the Samsung GS3 when it came out July 2012. But there were rumors about them possibly getting the iPhone, so I waited until the 5 was released in September. Nothing. Then there were rumors about them getting the iPhone in December. I figured I'd wait for that and/or a great BF deal on the GS3. BF came, and the only deal was $100 GSIII for new customers, not existing customers upgrading.

I then thought I wait for X-Mas/New Year's for possible deals. Nada. Then I figured I'd just pull the trigger and get the Note 2 in January. I looked into it. My town wasn't 4G, so I couldn't get the 2 years unlimited 4G plan for $40. That's what I was told at a couple of stores (you had to have 4G where you live to get it). A gal at a Davenport store told me I could get it, and that I'd just start getting the 4G whenever it came to my town (we got it sometime between January and now). IDK if she actually could've signed me up, or if she would've gotten a message about it while checking out - preventing me from getting it. I walked out to think about it. The more days/weeks I waited, the more I wanted to wait until the Note 3 or new iPhone came out. I wanted a new phone, not one that was even 3 months old (as the Note 2 was at the time).

I finally got tired of paying an extra $25 a month, and dropped the BB. I bought a Moto Razr V3 on ebay and was using that with my $40 plan since February.

We went to Verizon a couple of weekends ago. Ended up walking out with a Note 3 while she got an iPhone 5S. I was 50/50 about which phone to get. I'd rather be with Apple (despite what people who dislike them say about them). It just works. It's easy…intuitive. I like their products. Yeah, you pay a premium for them. But they have great build quality and they work well. Some of the other phones feel so plastic'y. We've been buying their stuff (laptops, iPods) since 98/99. I think we've bought 11 Apple items since then. The only product that was a bit of a dud (worked, but had problems) was the first Shuffle they ever released. Everything else has been great and has lasted a long time. I'd never camp out to buy a product day 1, but I do like their stuff.

My Note 3 is defective, so it has to go back. I can swap it out for the same device, but I'm leery. When I pay a lot of $$ for something and there's something wrong with it, I get turned off. I generally don't like to get the same item a 2nd time. I move on to something else. I love the big screen. Some of it (look/features) are just beautiful. This is my first Android. I've never had an Apple phone. I've always wanted one. It's ironic that I waited and waited for the iPhone to come to USCC. By the time they got it (11/8), I was switching to another company. USCC has been so messed up the last 6 months. Their reception is still the best where I live (better than Verizon in Eastern Iowa). But the company just scares the shit out of me (can't get their billing straight, selling markets).

So my Note 3 has to go back. I just don't know what I'm going to do when I take it back. I'm leaning toward just canceling the line and waiting to buy something. I'm so f'ing tired of waiting, but I'm still unsure what to do. Sounds like Apple is going to come out with a bigger iPhone next September. I don't want to wait until then though.

Adding to the frustration of a defective device is the fact that the Note 3 has been on sale now too. I paid full price. Even though I was switching from being with another cell company for 10 years, I got no deal. The phone was full price, the line was full price. Literally the day I bought it at the Verizon store for $300, Amazon put it on sale through Verizon for $170. I know that Verizon won't match, so I don't have many options if I want the Note 3 on a deal through them. The only thing I can do is just return it outright and re-do the whole transaction wherever it's on sale.

I don't know how people compare two completely different purpose phones to each other.

I would never buy a Note. But I hope you guys understand the Note was a niche purpose phone that a few android fanboys promoted hard so they could brag about it to others in order to play the "who is more hardcore" game.

I had 3 stylus phones in the past. I love having a stylus on a phone. But at the time, those were the best solutions for my business needs. Now, far from it.

Milton: I've been really happy with my note. There are a few quirks but it's nothing too horrifying. The s-pen has also been a very pleasant surprise, I use that shit all the time.

Crys: The niche of different phones doesn't matter to me. In my opinion these devices are all pretty similar. They're phones that serve a myriad of purposes. Some features/options are better on some devices than others but all of them are ultimately phones first with a shit ton of features to make my life easier. Or to make me waste a bunch of time watching cat videos on YouTube...

I have the note 2 and have loved it since I got it. I wish samsung made better antennas but other than that its great.

I had a dumb phone until last year too. I now have an LG L9 on a prepaid plan. I only activate the 4g internet when I am expecting important email and just pay for talk per minute. $.10 per minute lasts a long time if you aren't chatty. A day's worth of 4g data is $3.
