This is such an amazing money grab by the owners.
Fun fact: The NFL makes by far the most money off playoff games. They pay per player $28-124K game depending on if it's wild card, conference championship or Superbowl games.
Think about that for a second. The largest game day cost for any team is their players. Your franchise QB that makes $30,000,000/year or $1,870,000/game in the regular season only costs you $28,000 for a playoff game. That same playoff game has the best gate sales and exposure then any game throughout the year. With every playoff game your team wins the gate revenue and exposure grow exponentially while your costs are still way less than a typical season game.
So many fans jumped on this item of the Collective Bargaining Agreement thinking 'more football means everyone wins!!!'. The truth is that the owners disproportionately benefit from each playoff game, whereas the players do get an additional game day check, but for the top 20% of the league that check is far less than their negotiated per game rate.
