It is such a lame backstory for team name, but they just sucked at it a hundred years ago.

There used to be a football team named the Dayton Triangles.

The Chicago White Sox were originally the White Stockings.

The New York Knickerbockers is brain fried on cocaine stupid.

....and Green Bay Packers just sounds made up....

....like they are the Washington Generals of the NFL..

It's not like they said hey we have a baseball team named "Cubs" so let's overcompensate by naming our football team "Bears".

When the Green Bay Packers were established, it wasn't thought that the NFL would be a million dollar profit entity, let alone the multi-billion that it is today. The story about how the Packers got their name is interesting. However, the name itself, meh, not so much. Don't get me wrong, I love the franchise, but the name "Packers" is just kind of meh to me. What the hell else is Green Bay known for though? I know we're a large paper producing town so I mean the Green Bay Papers?
