If you like only scoring random goals this game is for you. As usual they over did the goalies. New skating engine is great, the physics are better, collision detection is better, puck rebounds more naturally off the goalies and they dont gobble up the puck as easily. but if you like to setup 1 timer passing plays....yeah doesnt happen

I actually scored a bunch of one timer passing plays in the demo.

I played the early release. They don't happen. I executed several, two of them perfect. didn't go goalie made impossible saves. Ask Count Dante he was my goalie for Co-op GM and even he wasn't believing it.

I dont mind that EVERY perfect cross crease doesnt go in, that would be dumb and boring...

But to have 5 perfect xcrease plays go and not 1 goes? That isnt fun.

I like the new skating engine, although I was rusty to begin with and it will take some adjustment. Overall, I think it is a good game and will be an improvement over previous versions.

But I am not buying... at least not right now. Few months, maybe.

IDK, I scored on a several of them. I've also found picking your corner on shots is a lot easier, but you also tend to sail the puck wide or high a lot more. Seems like the puck goes where you're aiming a lot better than it has in the past.

Also, it's a demo so I'm sure they can fix some of those problems. We'll see if they have by release time.

I'm sure you had an old tuner since the early release had a tuner patch immediately. And they very well might tune it again and make them go easier but as of right now. They don't go.

I just realized that you played an early release. I assumed you meant the demo, but I see that's not the case.

If that's the case, I hope they fix the issue.

I played the demo this morning.

I do love the new skating engine and poke checking seems to work INFINITELY better.

I played 4 periods. I scored 3 goals. 2 rebounds and a partial breakaway. I had maybe 3-4 perfect X-crease plays, that goalie sure does get over with the quickness. I notice the goalies flop alot more, which may lead to more rebound opportunities.

Overall I liked the gameplay and might get it, despite the seeming un-reliability of x-crease.

There will undoubtedly be tuner downloads to address problems like that, wouldn't worry too much about it. It's good that they're really trying to improve things, especially with no competition from another company. The new skating engine was a risk that could have blown up in their faces, but I can't go back to the other games now that it's implemented.

To me though, it's always the little things that really make the game better and make it stand out a bit more. Like the ability to have 3 alternate captains if you don't want to name a captain. Stuff like that that wasn't in the game last year. I was disappointed to see that you still cannot re-sign your players during the season of their expiring contracts and have to attempt to do it all at once during the off-season. Wish the create a team options were expanded more, especially with logos, seems like a copy and paste job there from last year.

Played a few games. Ironically the first goal I scored was cross-crease. The first goal my friend scored on me was cross-crease. There were definitely some insame cross-crease saves as well, but I don't think it's unreasonable. There will definitely be a lot more rebound goals this year. The goalie loses his net way more. I love the poke check this year. It's so much more accurate and better.

I'm not planning on getting it this year, the demo was alright.

I've heard the Xbox version the goalies are like ridiculously over-Lundvistd. It's almost impossible to score on them unless its a redirect or rebound.

One of my co-workers said that his club who averaged 3.75 GPG over 200 games could only average 1.5 GPG during the 3 day early release.

Dante told me a release day tuner fixed the goalies. Still dont know if I want to sink 60 into. I will say this though the game is a step in the right direction.

Anyone else find it ironic that they decided to do "13" as the Stanley Cup edition, when there is a possible lockout around the corner?

Just for picking 13, I bet they don't play a season due to that shitty number.

Either way, I'm still stuck on NHL 11. Too many penalties in that game, if I plan on buying another one I hope they fixed the phantom calls and bullshit "tripping" calls for trying to poke check. In fact, I don't even try to poke check or lift the stick anymore, I either hit or lay the stick down.

Don't forget that over time the value of sports games goes down, usually after Christmas or close to the 2nd Quarter. Not to mention that, but there's a variety of other games that pique my interest at this time: Assassin's Creed 3, WoW: Mists of Pandaria, Resident Evil 6, Borderlands 2, Tomb Raider.... not to mention theres the coming out party for the Wii U.

I'll wait til after my potential 2013 trip to get this game.

I played a few games last night and the guys on my team and the opponents playing manual goalie seemed to have big issues. The CPU goalies weren't too bad.

BTW, the new club name is "Kanes Angry Liver"
