Depends on how it all plays out. He could end up a top 10 pick with a big year... and unless we have a total disaster of a season, he could be out of reach if the Bears are a mid-first pick... or the reverse can happen and he becomes a Day 2 pick. A year ago, Jeanty wasn't even a top 60 player on early boards. Hampton wasn't a 1st rounder either. Ollie Gordon II was actually a commonly top rated back. I saw some projecting Trevor Etienne as the top back too. The RB position can really change in a year.

Wasnt the top RB in preseason the guy from michigan, Donovan Edwards?

He ended up going in the 7th round lol.

Obviously it's early, but as of now the top of the 26 prospect list is filled with big EDGE prospects, like probably a group of 8 or 10 guys who are all over 265. That seems like a logical choice if some of those guys remain high into next Spring.

S is a possibility. Don’t think they go G in the 1st just to ride the pine for a year or two.
I think G is a bigger need than you think. Thuney is old and probably getting a 1-2 extension and Jackson I just don't trust. I'd love to see Luke Newman work out, but I'm not banking on a 6th round pick who's new to the position to be "him". Maybe Trap solidifies LT and it kicks Kiran inside or he stays a swing, but regardless, I think a G is a big need next offseason.

I'm not sure you understand how 12 personnel works... both are considerably important and vital to the offense.

One of them lacking in talent means you cant run 12 personnel effectively in the NFL. The Y Tight End (KMET) is vital in getting favorable matchups against Linebackers while the U Tight End (Loveland) especially in obvious passing downs is expected to put in work on a nickel situation.

In the event that defenses respond on 1st and 2nd down to the 12 look with 3 linebackers this is when Kmet becomes a vital part of the offense.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Most important part of the entire offense.

The defense is preparing to be attacked with the run... they see the mismatch in size and can't let the TE bully the Nickel out of the play.

Kmet now becomes the least likely option but the most important option in the event that we run "Play Action". Loveland can block in line... selling the run. The RB has to be convincing enough to get defenses worried. (IDK if we've established that yet) But if they bite Kmet is the guy that gets attention from the Linebacker with the lowest coverage rating. Why? because that's how it ends up lining up.

Kmet is more than serviceable in the passing game and has really sure hands even though he was forgotten in the offense last year.
Really Kmet is one of the better pass receiving Y TEs in the NFL when used right, so he has great value in the Bears passing game.

Both guards are going to be here until at least 2027 or 2028. The odds of them drafting an OG in the 1st to be a reserve until 2027 or 2028 is highly unlikely. In the 3rd or maybe 2nd? Sure. They have to of course plan ahead like they do with all position, but barring anything catastrophic, OG is not a big need next year. DE, RB, S, and perhaps LT are all way higher on the list.

Keep stacking those weapons!

On a serious note, between Braxton, Ozzy, and Kiran, they hopefully do have that spot solidified before the draft. If all goes well, they’re drafting at around 20…do they find a LT there better than any of their current guys? Possibly, but they just invested a 2nd/3rd on a LT in back to back years, and the staff is higher on Braxton than your average Chicago fan.

Early positional favorite for their 1st round pick next year is DE or RB. I’d throw DT in as a wild card if they lose Billings and/or Dexter doesn’t take another step.
Billings' deal is up this year and he'll be 31 then, so it's unlikely we retain him.

You’re probably right but I could maybe see a 2 yr deal if he’s still showing juice and the price is right. Likely gone though

I disagree. Billings has been playing great at $8mil/yr. Bears runD went to crap when he went down.

I mean, if he keeps playing well this year, plays 90% of the games, he might be a great value signing again, as you're getting an age discount.

I wanted to draft a runstuffing DT this year to give Billings rests without the Dline going to shit. They got 32-yr-old $14mil/yr Jarrett instead.

Not sure how Turner is going to be used in Allen's D, where you might see some 5-man fronts. If Turner doesn't show as DE who can get sacks, but instead an excellent DT run stopper, and Jarrett plays well, then maybe they let Billings go.

Billings makes $3.2m per year.

He was good last year, but season ending injury at his age/size, certainly no guarantee to be that good in the future.
