Kingman was a better tater hitter than Sosa. So was Frank. The stadium stopped when frank came to bat.

Me too. I loved watching Sosa at Wrigley hammering balls onto Waveland.

The increase in power due to steroids is one thing, but Sosa is one of the only players that dramatically increased his walk rate in his late 20s, early 30s.

And Brett, Frank Thomas was not a better homerun hitter than Sosa. I will give you that Thomas was a way better pure hitter than Sosa, but Thomas never hit more than 43 homeruns in a season. Thomas also never lead the league in homeruns at any point. Thomas was a great hitter, and I would probably take Thomas over Sosa if I had to pick between the two. Sosa cheated to accomplish being better at hitting homeruns, but he was better at hitting homeruns than Thomas.

People stopped to watch Frank bat. They weren't watching for singles.

Frank Thomas was a great power hitter. Doesn't change the fact that in their primes Sosa was better at hitting homeruns than Thomas.

Not like the did for Frank.

There is no way to prove or disprove that statement. I gladly concede Frank Thomas as a better hitter and a hitter who did it the "right way." Personally though if I had to choose in that ultra rare circumstance where you have to have a homerun, my choice would be Sosa. That said 99% of the time in baseball you don't need a homerun, and I would rather have Thomas's skillset to Sosa's in their primes.

I'll remind everyone about the policy held on CCS. The Eagle Scout is always right. :troll:

I can't prove it. But I lived thru it as an adult. I also had much more fun mocking the intelligence of Cub fans back then. I would ask them who played right field. Many had no clue. Today it is like the Obama effect and not knowing his political stances.

Thanks for the information. As usual it continued a lot of useful and informative points that really furthered the discussion here.
