the "competitive" crap really has no substance. you can make essentially make a 4 or 5 team division with bad baseball teams: example: pirates, royals, orioles, etc and that division would be the most "competitive" division in baseball, and yet the worst division in baseball. they are two opposite descriptions that should never get confused with one another. period.

True but it is going to be competitive. It should not have been spun into a conversation about the quality of the division in the first place.

This thread literally made me laugh so hard that I was told to shut my fucking mouth by my roommate.

Most competitive? Based on what... they every team is below average and that they all compete on nearly the same level?

Put one good team in the NL Central and it becomes blatantly clear how pathetic the division actually is.

Also the Cubs are a "Powerful Team." What the hell does that mean, the Cubs are BAD and are going to be BAD this year too.

Yes they might be, that is because the NL Center is that BAD. Seriously how can anyone make the case that the NL Central or Cubs are good?

the division as a whole is "competitive" yes. but again i will use this example, make a division with 4 or 5 suck ass teams: pirates, royals, indians, orioles etc.....and that division will be the most competitive division in baseball, but will be the worst as far as talent, division in baseball.

I agree, however, I don't think that we are the worst division in baseball, either.

The reasons we have some hope:
1) 24-13 finish (don't want to hear "it was because there was no pressure", none of you know that's why it happened)
2) Division sucks
3) Even if we do suck, we get to see Castro, Colvin, Cashner, and Jackson
4) Even if we do suck, we get to see Kerry Wood and maybe Reed Johnson again
5) Can't give up all hope before the first pitch is made

I can't think of what division is worse though.

Texas and Oakland are both above .500 teams though, that's half of its teams. More than we could say last season (2/6).

Oakland was .500. You seem to forget that we are in the middle of an offseason...

Ya, IK. But still, 3 teams look to be above .500, Cubs aren't one of them IMO. And Oakland's improved this off-season too.

The AL West is a pile of suck fest. Sure the Rangers are there, and the Angels always seem to contend most years....but it is still a pretty weak division.

The Nl west is pretty scarce too.
