yea in another article it eluded to the fact the beatings were getting worse, which is why she set the camera up.

Jako I was in a similar situation. My Mom used a wooden spoon. Then one day about 10, she was using it on my sister I grabbed it and cracked it in half over my knee. Oh that was bad.... She drug me down to my dad for a severe beating, told him the story, and he started LAUGHING!!! Last time I either of us ever saw the wooden spoon. And don't get me wrong my Mom was and is a Saint.

This here is just plain abuse. No question about it.

Yeah my folks had a nice set of wooden spoons when I was in third grade. I did something either stupid or got bad grades, I don't remember and they busted those out. They broke all of them on my giant can, and had to get the belt. I don't think they ever got new ones.

Im not looking for sympathy, as I really did deserve it. I mean, most of you see the way I am, and believe me, it is toned down.

So, instead of flipping your dad over your shoulder and on the ground with Popcorn flying all over the place is toned down from what you would have done to him if he had tapped you on the shoulder in the past.

+1! I laughed.

When I shot the neighbor with the one pump daisy my dad spanked me so hard I had a hand print on my ass for two weeks. But that also might have been due to the fact on the way for the spanking I kicked him in the sack.

You mean he didn't believe you when you said, " But dad! I thought it was Black Bart!"

nope. I was 7. Blocked myself in my room before he got home. Knew it was coming so didn't make it easy. Man by the time he got me to the "spanking" area he was pissed, and still in pain from the kick to the nads apparently! ooops...

My dad had a barbers razor strap, I think I wore it out..........finally , then they found out that confining me to the yard worked a whole lot better.

Last time I was hit I was 11. Not saying I didn't deserve it; hell, in the dynamics of the so-called family of the majority of my childhood I knew that no matter what I was always going to be in trouble, so might as well make it worth it (I think my favorite was telling my stepmom that Spandex was a privelege, not a right).

What stopped it was a psychological snap and I hit back. Hard enough to drop my dad.

It also helped that my stepfamily though I was going to pull a Menendez on them between 9 and 13. Luckily I didn't find out about that until a lot later (I would have so exploited that because of the bastard I am).

As for Corporal punishment, it's a tricky subject. I think it has it's place in the disciplinary arsenal, but it can be easily abused and generally should be an emergency/last resort.

I dont know, I just have this theory that time outs and shit like that dont work. it wouldnt have worked on me. Some kids will just be like F you and your time out, what do you do then? I think thats what people who dont believe in any corporeal punishment dont understand, some kids will just flat out ignore what their parents tell them Ive seen it. Some of my parents friends who had kids later in life at get togethers when I was in HS, brought their brats. Those kids would flat out ignore them when they would try and discipline them, when it didnt work they would just give up, thats when you gotta give em a reason they cant ignore to do what you tell them.

i never got hit from 15 on, that was only because my adoptive father had to just lay the threat down, and that would snap me inline. I know the shit his father did to him and I wanted no part of it (I dont think he ever would have been that bad, but still). before I was 16 and could get a job, I would shimmy open their bedroom door and raid the place for money.

They set a trap once, and caught me, I believe the words out his mouth were "Do this again and I'll break your fucking hand". Mind you, he never ever laid a hand on me, but he sure as hell seemed deadly serious so I was never a repeat offender.

Once I was 18 or 19 from that point on I never really gave my parents a reason to be pissed at me. I dont think either of them have ever so much as raised their voice at me since. Maybe thats because ive pretty much been on my own since then.

Each kid is different, one of my boys you had to smack him just to get his attention to talk to him.

The other one you just had to talk to and explain why you are pissed. He would really feel bad because he had disappointed us.

Your right about kids now a days. i was in a line for elementary band class because my daughter was interested in joining band. So, while in line, I met some of the other parents that had children in my kids class. One mom had her hands full. Her 10 year old not only yelled at her mom in front of everyone because she was bored, but because the mom was not paying attention to her. Threw a fit, then hit her mom. Hello! when did 10 year olds lose respect for their parents? I know this guy deserves whatever the hell he gets...but for damn sake...a 10 year old smackin her parent because she was annoyed?

time outs don't work. respect is earned. Kids need to learn that for every action is a equal and opposite reaction!

Whenever I was told to go stand int he corner until I was sorry, it had no affect on me. I knew if I made it convincing I'd be out of the corner in 2 minutes.

Now when the old man whipped my ass, yeah the threat of that got me to straighten up and fly right. I am the believer that you have to show children there are repercussions for their actions. I got lucky I learned it quick but timeout isn't a repercussion, getting your ass whipped is.

Think of this as adults, there has had to be someone you just wanted to beat the **** out of for whatever reason. You don't do it because you'll go to jail. It is the same concept you know there are repercussions for your actions.

If I yelled at my parents, my old man would have sent me flying. I deal with disrespect from my nephew and niece and just think to myself "If me and siblings pulled that shit, we'd have our asses beat"

A lot of people just shouldn't have children. That's basically what a lot of it boils down to. It's not just the whole messed up taking the rage out on the kid like this judge was doing either, it's the environment you bring your kids up in, your financial status, physical/emotional problems, drugs and/or alcohol dependencies, the list goes on and on. It's not all as obvious as what people like this are doing, there's a ton of people who should never have kids for one factor or another out of a whole lot of them just because they want to start a family. It doesn't necessarily mean they're "bad people" they're just people who shouldn't have children of their own.

It depends on the child and the punishment, TSD. The thing about punishment is that it's psychological, and a lot of parents fail to see that. If you look at it from a psychological standpoint, you know then that you have to tailor the punishment to the *specific* child. If a maladjusted child is hit more often than not, and doesn't really think/feel their parents care about them, then it's not going to be effective. Pain doesn't always work--it's fleeting. In fact, most of the reason for success about spanking is not because of the pain itself, but because the kids are taken aback that their parents struck them.

Punishment needs to have a contrast. If you coddle your kids and punish them very mildly, you'll get nowhere to make behavior improve. Likewise, if your kids are often in trouble, often grounded, and often paddled, adding more isn't going to make their behvior improve.
