but this is getting ridiculous. If I go to a bar to watch a game 99% of the jerseys being worn are knockoffs. Whats more annoying is some bars I've gone to auction off fake jerseys in raffles.

Its not even a matter of fandom, its the disgusting act of supporting counterfeiting.

I mean do people not even question why someone is able to sell jerseys out of the trunk of their car for 35 dollars? When authentic jerseys are 200+ (without a name) at the NHL Shop?

and the few acquaintances I know that have them are in complete denial that their jerseys arent authentic. I always get the reply "but its got a fight strap!". Why is your indianhead a white guy? Why is the shoulder patch wrong, your stripes are off, the lettering wrong et al. "Whatever, even its a knock off its still an authentic" What the **** does that even mean? That is a contradictory statement!

Again, I never really gave a **** until I saw just how rampant it was, for every 1 legit jersey there are 20 knock offs.

I've just gotten sick of the "some people can't afford real jerseys" So that makes it ok to participate in illegal activity?

the law can suck my dick, but the skin of the indianhead just looks so fucked up and wrong in those knockoffs

This is such a rehash. There are some of us who give a shit, and there are other people that are fine with spending $35 on something that looks not so good. So be it.

There will be those two sides, and both will make you feel kind of stupid.

I just spent $40 on something that's lettered and numbered cheaply and looks bad to the trained eye. Let's go Hawks.

I just spent $400 on something that's lettered and numbered correctly that probably cost $25 to manufacture. Let's go Hawks.

I've sort've migrated over to looking at game worn AHL and NHL. Been looking at talking to few people about that market.

[edit]

I could give 2 moist turds what you buy.

It's your money. Spend it how you want.

I know its a re-hash, I just never participated in those threads because I didnt realize at the time, people with a legitimate product were that much in the minority (I havent been to a game since the 09/10 season).

I don't own an authentic jersey either. I do have a few premier jerseys and an old ass starter Chelios jersey I got from JC Penny in 1997 with birthday money (that was the only jersey I had the indian head was falling off, I rocked that piece of shit with pride throughout the 2000's, because I couldnt afford another jersey, I didnt go looking for counterfeit products.)

Oh its you, who whines about people whining about threads and comes in and whines about threads.

Seriously IHF why don't you quit with this shit? Its getting tired. This is like the fifth thread I've made in recent history where you just chime in and say something stupid like this complaining about the thread itself like a child and leaving. Are you an adult or a 12 year old?

Its because you constantly do this, then you complain when people do the very same thing to you.

You come into threads then whine like a 2 year old about the topic, then leave.

side question for TSD: What kind of beer did you drink at the bar?

Well made micro brew? Or shitty macro brew beer that tastes a bit knock-off-ish?

I love the team just as much as someone getting ripped off for an authentic, I just would rather spend $35 dollars and made sure the Indian did not look like kim jong un.

But really, there are bandwagon fans that spend top dollar for a real one too...just look at all the one hunder level with the white color sticking out of them, and looking at their IPhones when Chelsea dagger blasts after a goal.

I'll play along. I own a Hossa jersey, which looks authentic to me but I'm sure it's not...just becuase it only costs about $50 from China. If people don't like it, they can kiss my ass. I don't have a trained eye for this, but I can certainly spot a really bad one with sewn on patches.

Can someone post pictures of a real authentic jersey? And a relatively good fake one? I'm curious about the differences.

Are the oringals only made in Canada by a certain brand or something like that? I'm curious to know now.

With the way the NHL has treated their fans, I hope there are MORE fake jerseys.

Supporting counterfeiting hurts who in this case?

Kind of low for bars to be auctioning off knock offs or them being given away as prizes. That's sort of lame. Otherwise Im still in the "I don't care group" of fans if people buy them on their own.

Maybe the answer is like all other answers to these sort of things. Make the authentics more affordable to the average person? I certainly can't afford them and I consider myself a non band wagoner etc. Sometimes a guy just has no other choice but to buy the fakes. I never even expect them as a gift..I don't want people spending that kind of cash on me for something I will just get mustard stains on anyways.

I prefer hats and toques anyways.

Ok, I laughed at the first line.

Who cares what they were. They look like shit so be it, they look like shit. Just like the asshole at the gas station telling me my Winter Classic Jersey was a cheap fake.. OK asshole, other than the guy on the back actually wore it during the game.

Half our fan base is there to be seen and drink beer. Sound familiar?

I will mix it up at the bar, more or less depends on the buzz level im going for, but really those are 2 different animals. Drinking a miller/bud lite isn't the same as someone buying a macro brew made in china, profiting off of Fat Tires logo and branding. Fucking the NHL aside, I do get that as well.

I am not Questioning anyones fandom for buying a fake, I am sure many people just don't know. I am more or less questioning those knowingly buying fake products, that contributes to a black market who fleece unsuspecting people who think they are paying for the real thing. The thing I am trying to hit home here, is there are people (and you can find many disgruntled people on you tube) who ARENT getting them for 35 dollars in the back of someones trunk. They are paying 90-100 bucks for them (which is still cheaper obviously) but can be very disconcerting to someone who didn't want to pay 100 dollars for a fake product.

The fakes are made in china, they essentially just duplicate the jersey (still says its made by Reebok, etc. but it isnt). Fake means what it means Reebok, the NHL, or the blackhawks literally have nothing to do with the creation of these jerseys.

this is one of the older fakes, that actually look fairly convincing because the indianhead isnt a white guy and this guy is making a killing if he is actually selling these things at this price point.

Heres what the fakes im seeing mostly look like now.

The indianhead looks like a white dude. lettering is off, C and tomahawks should have about a half inch black stitching outline.

Here is obviously an authentic.

Honestly I didn't really notice myself until I was wearing one of my jerseys in a bar, and noticed 99% of peoples indianheads were caucasian and oddly shaped, and the C and toma hawks were skinny with almost no black stitching around them. Look at the indianhead, the lettering, the shoulder patches and compare them to what the players wear. That is generally the easiest way to tell.

And to re-iterate, I said since my first post I am not questioning anyones fandom with buying fakes.

I just don't like contributing to a market that fleeces people. Just because you don't care if your jersey is fake, that person that bought a jersey for 100 bucks on ebay from someone that got it for 30 bucks in china, thinking they got a good deal on a jersey might care.

lThe chinese advertise on youtube as well:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8EZdiO2GgI

Then there is this poor bastard who was really pissed off when he found out his 90 dollar jersey was fake, because he doesnt make alot of money and he felt hosed because a FAKE jersey isnt worth 90 dollars to him.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8P4AQlwF3A

Its stories like the above that bug me with people knowingly buying fake shit, because it contributes to people not wanting to buy fake shit getting hosed.
