Gabriel gets too much shit here. People bring up his bad draft picks and dumb takes as if he is the only person that has them.

The fact is he has been right about some things and wrong about some things. He was right that no one was offering Jones 18m a year when reports were talking about a bidding war that may exceed 20m a year.

Gabriel gets shit because he’s an asshat. But he clearly is very knowledgeable.

What did he do last year that gives you confidence in him? He graded terribly by PFF, only had 2 sacks last year, and might have some injury issues…

Not trying to condone his actions nor am I trying to disagree with you, but Greg Gabriel comes from a whole different era where things were done differently.

He comes from an era where elders (actually, older people, not wiser people like elder should mean) were revered and their words were taken as gospel.

A combination of him not understanding when someone questions his takes and a lack of knowledge how to interact with trolls online causes him to react poorly, making people to pile on him which causes more bad responses from him.

He is basically easy bait for online trolls and he pays for it with his own reputation.

As for him being outdated and out of touch, I believe that is wrong. To this day, he has strong connections to three NFL franchises (Bills, Giants and Bears) along with ties to lots of personnel both on teams and in the NFL media. To this day, he is respected as a scout, choosing to work as a free lancer than working year-round for an NFL team.

His word is absolutely better than any of our takes on player fits and probably 80% of the talking heads on TV.

Just know that he is going to be an asshat if he is pushed by trolls.

My biggest issue with him is the gatekeeping he does for the NFL. As if some things should be national secrets. For instance, a popular argument for him regarding Ryan Pace was, "Don't forget he completely redid the entire practice facility. And if you don't understand why that's important then you don't understand a GMs job." Well ok, explain to us how that relates to a GMs job and how it translates to on field success. "Nah, you're blocked." Shit like that.

Again, he can be an asshat when he is questioned. This is because he comes from a time when the "elders" were right and should always be respected and never questioned.

I disagree with that because old doesn't always make you right.

Honestly, he should have some form of barrier between him and people. Less stress for him and he can keep away from getting questioned for his good or bad takes.
