Bill Simmons: Just got word the Clips/CP3 trade is definitely off. Can only be revived if NBA bends on its super-steep asking price. This is I-N-S-A-N-E.

Chris Bosh: "Nobody's talking about Chicago either. They probably felt like they should have won it all last year, like like we felt."

Looks like league is saying it won't let CP dictate that NO trade him where he wants to go. Looks like they may make him become FA an Settle for teams with cap room or take far less $ to pick his spot. Or stay in NO for biggest payday. This must be about principle not bbal

Marc Stein: One of "changes" Dwight Howard wants is signing of Chauncey. If DH12 stays, sources say he'll urge Billups to spurn Heat and "anchor" Magic

David West to Pacers: Thumbs up
By John Hollinger
ESPN.com

The Pacers were worried that they would be able to use their trove of cap space only if they wildly overpaid somebody, but instead they waited out the market and got themselves a pretty good deal. David West is obviously a risk since he's coming off a serious knee injury, but the Pacers limited their exposure to two years.

Plus, I like this deal in several other respects. West fills the single biggest weakness on the team, at power forward. The fit is there because he does precisely what Indy had asked its power forwards to do last season -- spot up from 17 feet and clear the lane for Roy Hibbert -- but he's dramatically better at it. My only misgiving is that a frontcourt of Hibbert and a recuperating West is going to be at a major disadvantage defensively; you'd almost rather see one come off the bench so West could play with Jeff Foster and Hibbert with Tyler Hansbrough.

Nonetheless, this was a solid strike by the Pacers. They still have some work to do in the backcourt, but they're looking like a potential top-five team in the East. One presumes this move makes Josh McRoberts superfluous, and the rumor mill already has him headed to Memphis in a sign-and-trade for O.J. Mayo.

As for that leftover work, obviously signing West takes the Pacers out of the running for Nene Hilario, but the team still has nearly $6 million in cap room left for another deal, or $13 million if they exercise amnesty on James Posey. There's another angle to this story, too, that I'll be writing about soon.

They have mo williams and Eric Bledsoe.

unless they use him as a trade chip

Clippers did not amnesty or cut anyone to make room for Billups.
