Nah, expat 4th of July parties are pretty sweet. Been to a few of them in my travels. Best ones were growing up when the US Ambassador to the Bahamas used to throw a wicked 4th of July party in the Bahamas. My buddy dated and married our former Prime Minister's daughter and she always used to get invited to the party and she would always invite me. In part to keep my buddy from getting wasted but also because she always knew some expat's daughter who wanted a date because they didn't want to go alone. She used to joke that she was essentially my pimp but I certainly wasn't complaining.

It was great too because it was the Ambassador's yard was essentially split into one section for the officials (expats, foreign dignitaries, essentially all the adults) and then another section for all basically the families (teenagers and young adults). It was one of the best parties in town if you had an in.

That's nice to know, Americans diplomats spreading the celebration of freedom world wide. I wonder if the embassy in London throws a big party celebrating our ass kicking of the British? Awkward!

Not sure if they threw one in London as didn't have any connections there but I lived in Rotherhithe so I typically spent the 4th at the Mayflower Pub as it was walking distance from where I lived right on the river. It allegedly was the spot where the actual Mayflower set sale. They also used to have a decent party at Ben Franklin old home as I went there once for the 4th.
