The team in last place in the AL East has the same record as the leader of the AL Central.

At least when I checked before the Sox game. The Jays and Red Sox would have had to win to make that still be true.

Terrible, terrible, terrible division. Twins are one of the worst teams this year and still aren't out of the race. Royals aren't good and they're in it.

Someone could still catch lightning in a bottle after the All Star Break...but that's a BIG could.

Yeah. As a fan of the current leader, I'm scared shitless because every other team in the division has a legitimate shot at winning if they turn it on.

But I don't know if anyone has a starting rotation. The Tigers looked good on paper to start the season, but...I don't know what happened.

Tigers always seem to fail when they look good on paper.

Agree that no team has a good starting rotation. White Sox probably have the best one, and theirs isn't great. It's far from it.

This division has sucked for awhile, but this year is really sad.

Captain obvious says a starting rotation is everything with winning a division, but to advance in the playoffs you need batting too.

If you look at the box score from tonights game...you'll see why the Twins really can never get out of the divisional round under Gardy. Too many runners left on base...which you can get by with in a weak division for 10 years...but when you get to the post season, you can't let that happen. And with shitty rotation for the past 2 years...is why they will probably be in the bottom again this year.

I think the Sox have enough intangibles to get over the hump and win this division. And I think the Indians will give them the strongest fight (not the Tigers).

But it will probably be 1 and done unless they can shore up the rotation.

If we shore up rotation at the deadline it could look like this:

Sale
Peavy
(someone we trade for)
Danks
Floyd/quintana

Im sure danks has been bad this year due to injury thats why i slot him at 4.

I actually think it's the opposite. Offense and all that will get you to win the division and get to the playoffs, but in order to succeed in the playoffs you have to have good pitching.

That's why the AL Central is always one and done in the playoffs.

Meh...we'll just agree to disagree. Considering the Piranhas managed to win a lot of AL Central titles the past 10 years.

If your LOB number is high...you're in for trouble in the postseason.

That's true. It takes offense in the postseason, but not the same offense that you need in the regular season. You have to score on every chance in postseason and manufacture runs.

I think we both realize that manufacturing runs in addition to really good pitching is the key. Offense is one thing...but if you strand runners...the offense looks good stat wise, but that won't get it done down the stretch.

Not to be off topic...but does anyone venture over to the Bears board come football season? I was bummed that it was kinda dead over there last year comparatively.

I kind of do, but I'm not on CCS much except during the summer because my job is reporting during the school year, but I only write a weekly column during the summer.

Declare them dead again so they can pick up three games in a week like the last time you did Joe...

Tigers aren't afraid of us. Being afraid of a team above you is not how it works.

The White Sox are on top and therefore should be afraid of the 4 other teams because they all honestly have a shot if they turn it on in the second half.
