Discuss your careers here, questions you may have for other users that you are interested in, career changes etc.

I started this thread because of 2 things.

1) i am changing careers and it is stressing me out and i wanted a place to discuss it with other users, some who might be doing the same thing.

2) because everyone here has some sort of career goal in mind in what they want or dont want to do.

For me im out of the stock game, investments etc. too much stress. I am now looking at options to purchase and start from scratch a logistics company. I have to buy a few trucks, and yes starting from scratch i will have to drive a semi, which i already have my CDL and experience to do, but will have to sacrifice time and money on this gamble.

if any of you have experience in logistics any help would be amazing!

I know you are not working, but what is it you are trying to do for the current time, I know your aspirations are to be on the radio, but what about right now...what can you do and what do you want to do....i may be able to help you find something.

The priest who hosts the wedding of West Virginia couples consisting of cousins.

Do I really need to repeat what I'd like to do?

I feel for you guys fighting for work. The company I work for had 300+ guys working for us 2 summers ago, we now have 12. Really the best thing you can do is invest in getting more education, certifications, and learn new skills to make yourself as employable as possible.

When the construction industry started slowing down 4 years ago I took construction management courses and got 8 new welding certifications, that help keep my job over everyone else that decided not to make them harder to let go. Now most of those guys will be out of work for at least 1-2 years.

I'm still looking for something steady. Besides small web design, some open source project commitments, occasional IT gigs, and hosting a management workshop for side cash here and there... I'm just taking any decent buck that I can(within my realm of knowledge).

When I got out of the Army, I already grew so far apart from my social contacts growing up. It was like starting off fresh. The crumbling economy didn't help either, but that is my biggest problem, the real life social network that aids in getting that foot in the door. The odd thing is, I know lots of skilled people who I can employ with success, just nobody that can employ me full time.

I think the biggest problem with changing careers, is that old saying, "It's not what you know, but who you know." g/l Dew

Dewey.. have you looked into just doing intermodal container transport..

you could be doing driving to each of the railroads intermodal facilities i think bedford park is a Union Pacific.. along with Joliet/Elwood having both Union Pacific and BNSF massive facilities.. I'm sure they are looking for drivers... maybe even companies to come in and assist.

I want to be a police officer and I will be come a police officer IF my sever migranes go away. If not, I would like to do something in the MLB front office.

Right now I'm working at McDonalds and I've been there for 3.5 years.

In the summer I plan on getting a 2nd job. Something to do with security. I'm only 19 (will be 20 in July) and I need to keep active and try to build a better background to becoining a police officer.

Please, GOD, let waldo stay as far as possible from the White Sox and guide him to the Cubs so he can keep up their century-plus championshipless team.

I am fairly sure his resume would be tossed out with the amount of grammatical and spelling errors it would contain. I also would love to see Waldo in the front office for the Cubs, guaranteed failure.

"Dear Chgicao Cubn, I wod want to announxe my serveices to be in th chicgo ubs frnt offc3. Thak you!"

No one has said anything about my grammar in a long time, and this is not what the thread is about. I'm pretty sure there is a thread about Waldo vs. grammar or something. Post it there..

"Become" should be one word in the context used. Be come made no sense.

Severe is the correct spelling, sever means to separate.

Becoining? I am not too sure on what you were going for there.

Normally MLB front offices do not consider people with a background in security and fast food services. You act like you can walk up to the front door and apply for a position with a realistic chance of being considered.

I did not say that about the MLB front office. I have a background plan, if I can't be a police officer. I know what I will have to do, in prepartion to try and be in the MLB front officer (scout, etc.). But, I could probably do that to become a police officer.
