Way to derail a thread.

BTW, I have no qualms with people working fast food. When I was 14, I worked at a McDonald's. When I was 16, I was a swing manager and made around 35k a year(inflation adjusted, is around 50k a year now.) McDonald's run a tighter shift than most high school jobs. Unless you're a total slacker and become the guy who makes french fries! LOL

McDonalds at a younger age is not bad because the ages are 16-21, for the most part. So we all have stuff in common. 3 managers are the ages of 18, 19 and 21. The people who work there care about the job to an extent, but for the most part we mess around and just have fun with it. The job itself is not fun. but I love the people who work there, as we have fun with the not so fun job. That's why I pretty much like the job.

That's what matters.. Most jobs are going to suck..

So hopefully you're having a decent time while you are there.

Yeah good point..

I am having fun with the job, and that's why I won't quit. If I don't get the hours, oh well. I won't get hours now because of the Winter, but I will again when the spring-summer comes. I have the money for now, and I'm all good. I'm cheap as hell, haha.

I'm currently in college wasting time until I can figure out what I want to do. I hate academia and I'm thinking about dropping out and some point and going to trade school. Maybe become a plumber or something.

I am a union plumber and pipefitter, and I can tell you first hand this is a poor idea right now. The money is good ($55 per hour) and the benefits are phenomenal ($26 more per hour goes into insurance and retirement) as well you are paid to go to school. Right now we are around 70% unemployment and on average guys are 1.5-2 years between jobs. Once the construction industry turns around I would highly recommend the trade, it is great traveling and not being stuck in an office all day. Most trade unions are not even accepting apprentices right now because of how scarce work is in the Chicagoland area right now.

Short Term

First, I want to get a real job this summer. The past two summers I have umpired and made good money doing it, but I want something that I can do year round.

Options: Burger King (I know a manager there and she can hook me up) or working at the golf course (Again, I know someone and can get a hook up). What other options should I consider?

College

I plan on starting classes at the local community college in the Fall 2011 semester. I can take 2 classes a semester there through my high school.

Once graduating high school, I plan on attending that same community college, to get my associates in Theatre Arts. After that, I would like to go to school in Chicago at an arts school (I really like Columbia College, but I don't know).

Long Term

After I graduate college, I would like to do a couple things. First off, my dream is to be a play director in Chicago. However, if that doesn't work out, I would like to work for a radio station or TV station, either as an anchor, salesperson/marketing, or as a program director. If that doesn't work out, I would go back to school and get certified as a teacher, so I can teach high schools about theatre.
