Oh...was that the point of class? The stories I could tell of missing class at UIUC
There were a handful of classes that I found useful to go to. Usually math/physics...though my grades in some of them would make it seem like I never went to class. I went to most of my CS classes because I thought they were interesting, but quite a few of them were rather useless. I think that time I'm thinking of was one of those math/physics days.

I knew plenty of people who ditched class all the time though and still aced everything. I usually assumed they were not engineers.

I took math 225 matricies
Homework helpee but didn't hurt
Grade was based on mid and final
I showed up for two classes (mid and final)

I got a B

I had to take the harder version of that class (415) for my major. Went to all classes. Grade was based on HW, 3 midterms and a final. Got a C+. I am always annoyed at how my effort never seemed to produce much results in some of these classes.

Mine was an elective if I remember correctly. I was an architecture major at the time. I remember taking Pool for a credit hour over at the Union. Fun times. Come to think of it, I cut that class quite a bit too.

I have this theory on how hard anyone should ever study. The lines are an effective line and an efficient line. The efficient line represents the number of hours you put in. The effective line represents the grade. Where those two intersect is the optimal amount of effort one should put into their studies for a particular topic. Example. If studying for an exam for an hour gets you a B- but studying for four hours gets you an A, you wasted three hours.

I adopted that mentality after two years. My grades didn't change a ton (they did actually go up a little ironically), but I felt a lot better mentally and stuff. Did a lot more of the things I wanted to do. Stress levels dropped a lot. It was pretty nice actually.

I found people I knew who were all gung ho to pull all-nighters and whatnot tended to actually spend much of the "studying" time just messing around.

I always gave my roommate shit cause he would talk about all-nighters Freshman year for exams and it would go something like:

6pm-8pm: Actually Study
8pm-9pm: Mess around on da internet and junk
9pm-11pm: Go out to get food and play Foosball
Midnight-1am: Try studying but too tired
1am-2am: Go out and get coffee, 5 hr energy, etc
2am-5am: Try to stay awake and study but wind up just spending the time not sleeping
5am-6am: Dose off for a while
6am-9am: Go home, get breakfast, shower, maybe sleep an hour or so.
10am: Go to exam sleep deprived and talking about how awesome the all-nighter was, get a C+ curved up to a B- like most of the people who didn't stay up all night.

Part of me would love to go back to school. I'd love to be the mouthy one this time around. I think i'd ace any class too.

You shouldn't have given your roommate shit for the all-nighters, you should have given him shit for having to study in the first place. If you really need to study that hard for an exam you're either too stupid to absorb the material, incapable of actually paying attention in class, or completely lack reading comprehension.

But a white Thanksgiving I'd wager $$ on, this pattern hasn't changed.

While the rest of the planet bakes, eastern U.S stays cold and wet.

If I still gambled I might take you up on it. We rarely get snow prior to Dec 1

I disagree to an extent.... I always reviewed materials before a test. You forget stuff, or in college there will be stuff you don't get the first time through and you need to figure it out later for the test.

Keep in mind TJ I am talking Computer Science courses here.... I pretty much agree for anything in the Liberal Arts range.... but Engineering you generally need to study for your tests. However, the notion that you have to spend hours and hours studying and staying up all night was always odd to me.

There is only one strategy when attending school..As much as possible, emulate Rodney Dangerfield in "Back To School"
