It was actually posted in the 2012 draft thread but I guess it finally does deserve its own thread  ESPN Chicago suggests the deal isn't finalized yet but they have an agreement in place...just have to take the physical and sign on the dotted line.

His signing at $3.9M means the team's gonna pay a luxury tax of around $300K give or take. Not a big deal... but it shows just how tight the poll is since only 3 guys went over slot.

We sure have had a lot to talk about this year. Say what you will about Theo and Co.... But, they have brought change and given all of us a chance to think and re think the young talent. As opposed to just sitting here in a thread wondering/hoping we pick up the next big first base bat while we languish in 3d place. I know I don't post here much, but I do lookin and read...

Albert Almora's Twitter says he's excited about becoming a Cub so it's as close to official as it can get without the Cubs actually releasing a statement.

You say that as if you wouldn't have held out for as much money as possible :cubstroll:
When I graduated HS, 18 years old....if someone offered me $3.2M to play baseball...i take it. not sayin' i blame him, just sayin' i don't think i'd hold out like he did.

The deadline was Friday, so they had a few days to figure it out. If the Cubs said "no way in hell are we giving you $X" then yeah, you take it. But it's due diligence on the part of the player and his bastard agent to squeeze as much money as possible out of the billionaire owner.

Also do you guys really understand how little minor league ball players get paid. This is the money that he is going to get live on for the next four or more years, possibly forever since there is no guarantee that he makes it to the major leagues. I understand why he held out. I wish he had signed quicker and for cheaper since it would have given the Cubs a chance on getting a couple of guys with upside, but I can't fault the kid hold out for every penny possible since this might be his only payday.

Yeah I think there is a definite possibility that Baez, Soler and Almora will finish the year together, and hopefully progress through the system together from that point on.

The lineup is going to get better from within. There actually is a lot of depth in the system in terms of hitting prospects. The issue is that there is no impact pitching in the system. The only guys with real shots at being more than a 3 have yet to throw in the system (Maples, Johnson, Blackburn, Underwood, Conway, etc.)
