I think they still have to pay a luxury tax because they went even a fraction over the total recommended bonus pool, but it's only a 75% tax of the overage up to 5%. If it's just money I'm sure they'll just pay it and call it a day, but they definitely didn't lose a draft pick then.
Ok, that's correct... I was thinking 0-5% was free, but I guess it's still 75%... which at around $300K or whatever isn't a big deal to the team. At 10 %, you pay 75% of the overage AND lose your 1st round (or top pick if you lost your 1st rounder to compensation) pick. 15%, you pay 100% of the overage, and lose your two 2 picks (1st round @ comp pick/2nd round).
