CHICAGO BEARS ON OFFENSE

This week's game plan should be the easiest thing Luke Getsy has done in his career. Run the ball. When it does not work, run it some more. When that does not work, find more creative ways to run the ball. One of the few things in a bigger mess right now than the Bear offense is the Bronco defense. They have given up almost 80 more yards on the ground than the second worst rushing defense and are coming off a historically bad showing against Miami. If the Bears cannot get the run game going against the Broncos, then last season's leading rushing offense is truly broken.


CHICAGO BEARS ON DEFENSE

With Matt Eberflus now officially serving as his own defensive coordinator, he absolutely has to find a pass rush against one of the few offenses that give up as many sacks as his own. With September already in the books before kickoff Sunday, the vaunted Chicago Bear defense has one sack...in week one...against a QB making his second start in the NFL. Russell Wilson is playing better than he did in 2022, but he will morph back into his All Pro self if the Bears do not figure how to pressure him. If the Bears cannot get the pass rush going against the Broncos, then Matt Eberflus may as well commit ritual seppuku on the 50 yard line because his defense is truly worthless.

Prediction: 34-13 Broncos

I've been a Bears fan long enough to know how these things work. The Bears will struggle to move the ball on a team that just gave up 70 points the previous week. I've seen this movie before. Never underestimate how bad things can get with this franchise. It can always get worse, and it usually does.

As for the game, Russell Wilson is actually playing fairly well again this year, and the Bears essentially are missing everyone in their secondary. We know Wilson is going to have all day to throw, which means there will be plenty of looks downfield that I expect him to be able to exploit. If the Bears can't establish any semblance of a running game on DEN and chew up clock, this game will be over by halftime.

Sean Payton has had the Bears wired for years. I can't remember the last time they won a game against him.
