You said that picking a punter is the 4th is cool because other than punter, there’s just a “bunch of development players that may not even pan out” and that the “picks there were not even sexy at all as development players”.

This seems to indicate you believe there wasn’t anybody else worthy to pick in the 4th other than the punter. If I’m misinterpreting you, hey, that’s fine. I apolgize then. I just tend to think Poles drafted Taylor in the 4th because he liked and wanted him, not because there just weren’t others worthy of being drafted in the 4th-onward.

Sorry are you going to address how you lied about what I said?

I think you missed the entire second half of the season last year. The D was on fire and creating turnovers at a crazy rate. Against sub oar QBs mostly but still.

Second half, so AFTER they were threatened by having a rookie QB unlikely to score.

And "entire" except for games like Packers where they went right back to their SOS.

I didn’t say it was the right play. I said I like the pick. I don’t mind what he did. Due to what was out there.

There’s a difference. Apology accepted, even though I wasn’t looking for one. At the end, we had a good draft.

What is funny about this is there is no way the Bears lose on this trade per the draft value chart.

143 is worth 34. Later picks are typically discounted a round so even if you value the 4th as the 1st pick in the 5th then that would be 38 in value. That is as neutral as you can get for a trade.

Show me where I criticized the Booker pick. I like the pick, so not sure what you’re talking about.
If it wasn’t you, why are you worrying about it?

The Bears are set on depth, and there are no development players worth it in the 4th round this year, hence the punter pick in the fourth round, I’m told.

What was your point here? You obviously seem upset about something. If you like the pick what are we talking about.

Eh, it's not quite that cut and dried. As others have noted, good GM's have flexibility to move both up and down the draft.

But when you look at the Pace gaffes, it was not just that he traded up. He traded up using multiple picks and then often missed on the pick on top of that. And especially, he would give away 3rd round picks in a bunch of his trades. Long term, that is what screws you. It's not just trading up, it's trading up using really valuable picks like 3rds and then missing or not getting full value on the pick you do make.
Yeah but it's all the same thing.

Needing your guy now. And being willing to play a premium for that. Have to be careful with that impulse and should actively seek out trade partners who give into that impulse.

I don’t think it was the right play, is I was the GM. I would have probably traded down a bit.

Hey IBleedBearsBlood, at the end, what did you think about “Poles” pick at 4th?

Although I would have probably don’t something different, I like it.

What’s so hard to understand? Just cause it wasn’t my way, I’m suppose to hate the pick?

Why did you jump in if you don’t understand the conversation?

The point is, the Bears didn’t pick a punter in the 4th because they didn’t like anyone else that late in the draft or because there weren’t other players worthy of competing for this team.

If that were true, they wouldn’t have traded into the 5th for Booker.

If no one disagrees with that point, cool, we’re on the same page.

And I missed the awesome DT and DE they got in the offseason
Oh, you're one of those "Fill every hole every off season" guys. As though every last place team just becomes great every off season. Got it.

I supposed trading down in a top heavy draft was the better way to go?

GMs can't draft unlimited players. They're draft picks, not loaves and fishes.

No one did. And I didn’t either. I asked, am I upside to hate the pick? That’s why there was a question mark at the end. Your really trying to get this one huh? Hahaha. Keep going bro. Don’t stop now and don’t keep me waiting. I’m telling you to entertain me now.

Its called development. A bunch of young players that we saw grow in front of our eyes and learn the scheme. They were coming of a 3 win season. Context matters.

Is your point really that them playing well didnt matter because they only did it because the offense sucks and if the offense gets better the D will get worse?

Giving up 17 points to the packers with Johnson out and Love picking on his replacement means the D sucks? Our run D was disappointing but the offense couldn't even muster up 200 total yards. Did you not see GB put up 48 points on Dallas the following week?
