And still not cleared

I will note one thing, the "first pick" thing is a little odd to judge a GM by as typically when they are hired they are using the scouting department and information provided by the prior regime.

Not enough time to fully scout all these players after being hired in mid january.

Watch him get out in space to pick off linebackers and safeties at the second level and tell me how slow he is.
I realize it was one game and I realize he may end up being great. But I’m of those that have concerns about his ability and consistency in pass protection.

Mykel Williams needs a lot of polish, and he completely worked Banks over.

I think Banks needs time and work, but I could understand the pick.

He played 3 years at LT. Everyone has a bad game here and there. These guys are human.

How did he look in the playoffs?

Wright completely shut down Will Anderson in college his last year at Tennessee.

Will Anderson is still pretty damn good.

Don’t discount Rocket Raheim Sanders or Bhayshel Tuten. Taking that kind of speed/power combination or just raw speed would be great. I’d be happy with Tuten in the 3rd.
Tuten is one I have been intrigued by. He has flaws that keep him from being a top prospect, but he has speed and quickness and I could see that being used well by this staff if they're what we think they are.

I'll add that I'm not trying to box-in what Allen may do. I only looked through 5 years of the Saints D. I'm just hunting the snap counts and don't know the context of the roster construction or reason for why they had who they had, but was just something I noticed. Their top two DTs in snaps were always 315 or less. Also, not relevant to this discussion, but he never had any of these guys primarily lining up in the A gap, even the bigger guys.

If you're curious, here's the list since 2020 of the top 3 in snaps (in order of most snaps to lowest):
2020: Onyemata (300 lbs), Rankins (305 lbs), Brown (320 lbs)
2021: Tuttle (300 lbs), Onyemata (300 lbs), Ringo (300 lbs)
2022: Onyemata (300 lbs), Tuttle (300 lbs), Street (287 lbs)
2023: Shepard (315 lbs), Bresee (305 lbs), Saunders (324 lbs)
2024: Bresee (305 lbs), Shepard (315 lbs), Saunders (324 lbs)

This doesn't mean there's no way they take Grant though. I'm just guessing based on the above. The reason he may like Grant is Grant did primarily line up in the B gap at Michigan, so it may make sense.
One thing to remember is that Allen played with three defensive ends and one defensive tackle in some of his four-down alignments, especially on passing situations. I think another DE is more of a priority than another DT.

Is that sped up or is he just that manic? If I’m Cunningham, I’d be embarrassed to be passed over for that guy! WTF?!?!
Rams have been one of the best drafting teams in the league. I can see how sticking to the evaluation and not getting caught up in getting to know them and creating personal attachments could be smart

Some... sure... pretty much every defense runs Nascar "some" of the time. In 2 of the last 3 years, Allen's top 5 in snaps on the DL has included 3 DTs. Also, those same years, 3 of the top 5 in sacks were not edges. The Bears have 3 young edges (starters average age is 26.5 years old and pay is 40.5 million/year) on the roster and only one young DT. I can't confidently say an edge is a higher priority. Added to that, it's been reported that DT is more of a need.

I get it. And I’ll admit I probably haven’t seen him play as much as you have. But the times I did catch a Texas game, he looked kind of slow and off balance a lot of times. Sark’s offenses are pretty T friendly. I don’t think they feature a lot of true drop back pass sets (I could be wrong about that). And the plays Banks did have to hold up, he looked kind of plodding out there. Not smooth.

In my opinion, he will have issues defending against pro edge rushers. But again, I haven’t seen him play as much as I’ve seen UGA games.

I hope I’m wrong, especially if the Bears snag him.

I actually really like this answer. Gladstone might be really good even though he looks like a child
To be fair, it's essentially the method he learned with the Rams. He's just taking their methods along with him... The idea is interesting though. I read in the past that you're not required to report if you're within some mileage of the college campus (not sure if that's true). However, if it is, you can plan out some of these and never need to notify that they happened.

As it relates to the Bears, Poles otherwise orchestrating who he plans to pick is not the greatest idea. I would hope maybe this year, he throws a bunch of curve balls related to the 30 visits. Gladstone is right in that spending some hours with guys is an extremely low likelihood of paying off. A lot of people know how to fake it through an interview.

Well, of course GMs do some "tactical" visits for draft maneuvering purposes. It sucks for draftees, but it's just part of what they've signing up for. Plus, they know a GM may want to grab them in the future based on a good interview.

Using conventional Bear Fan wisdom explain to me how bringing in a top ranked RB who is expected to go to the Raiders is a smokescreen.
We have brought in exactly 1 defensive player that's worthy of our pick. If we're not going offense that would mean that's the defensive player we're getting or we're drafting blind.
Without crunching a bunch of boards I see a lot of defensive players we could've brought in to smokescreen the one that we did bring in. Unless all the offense on our board is gone it's offense with #10. There is no smoke.

I can almost guarantee you Jeanty is on the table.
He might be our 10th option but there's a scenario where The Chicago Bears draft Ashton Jeanty with the 10th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
