The Lions other TE was a UDFA and primarily a blocking TE. So are you saying Johnson failed to properly use him?

Ben Johnson runs a variant of the offense that the Patriots run. *Spoiler alert* NE was known to successfully use two TE's in their offense.
You just proved my point entirely. Thank you good sir.

Tbh, I'd take Hampton before Warren. I think sn rb would have a bigger impact and I do think there's a pretty good chance Hampton ends up top 15 picks. Almost certainly top 20

I just don't see Warren being a game wrecker and think you can get similar impact from other TEs in the draft. That's not a knock on Warren, I do like him.

@knoxville7 I've watched more games of banks and Campbell and actually do like banks the best. Though I think Campbell will be pretty solid. I thought LSU C being atrocious and letting the pocket collapse frequently, hurt Campbell at times because nussmeier had nowhere to step up when Campbell would push guys past.

They literally fckn traded Hockenson. If they valued having 2 TE's so much why did they trade Hockenson?????
He was traded for a 2nd and 3rd round pick from the Vikings. He was looking to become one of the highest paid TE's in the NFL...

Do I need to explain further?

They have only had Laporta since 2023, that doesn't prove anything other than that they havent had time to find a good 2nd TE and that they didn't want to pay Hockenson "Kmet" money. ;)

Watts is a borderline 1st round pick so it's not like he was being covered by a bum.
Yes correct. He was being guarded by an NFL- level talent and couldn’t make separation.

Honestly he would be a perfect fit. Would just make me sick to do it at 10.
Absolutely a perfect fit and definitely would have to be trade down. It’s really a much better draft experience this year compared to last. We knew Caleb was number one and Rome was good @9, but this year there more avenues the Bears could take and get a stud player.

lol. They had ample chances to add another TE and never did. Shows they were perfectly happy and proficient enough with a below average 2nd TE. Thanks!

For sure, and it's not just arm length... wingspan is just as important, or even more important.
Honestly it just depends on if the coach believes if Campbell can play LT. Some very good coaches believe he can others don't. Johnson has not weighed in on that so we as fans don't know.

Other questions that have to be answered? What does his film say, do his pros outweigh his cons?

As far as length is concerned, Jim Mora Jr. had this to say. It matters if you don't have overall length. To be successful you also have to have length in your legs, and torso. Someone also made a comp for Jason Peters who is also 6-6 and very athletic with short arms, but did not list any wingspan

I can't recall seeing Hampton as high as Top 15, let alone 10-15, and I have absolutely not heard anyone discuss Johnson in terms of even a sure first rounder, let alone Top 10-15.

At 39 or 41 I hope for a better back than Johnson, of which there should be a few. At 10, my dick would be totally ripped off.

Kiper, who hates RB's in the first round calls Hampton special as does Mcshay and Muench from Scouts Inc.

North Carolina’s Omarion Hampton could be the first running back to hear his name called during the 2025 NFL draft instead of Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty.
I wouldn’t be shocked if some teams ended up having Hampton as their top running back,” NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah said, via Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer. “He’s bigger and he’s going to run fast. He’s super explosive. He’s loose for a big guy. When I update my top 50, there’ll be less distance between those two. Hampton’s going to move up for me. He’s just a different body. He can catch the ball, he’s very productive, can make you miss. It’s just hard to find guys that are 223 like that.”

Hampton rankings..

Kiper 10
Mcshay 12
Scouts Inc. 13
Jeremiah 14

His tape better be otherworldly if anyone expects him to be the first ever outlier at his position. I personally feel like his tape is overrated, but I digress. Even if it were better, I’m not betting on a guy to be the first outlier of his kind. Definitely not at 10.

How about an outlier LT who is close, who is not as big or athletic as Campbell and is similar in wingspan at 79". Jake Matthews, 6-5 315, a day one starter for the Falcons, Pro Bowl player, who is still playing at a high level. One of the most consistent LTs in the NFL. Arm length and wingspan have never slowed him down. If he were in this draft people would consider him a guard.

Jake Matthews was drafted #6 in his draft class.

I wouldn’t be surprised if 3 RBs are off the board in the 1st, almost certainly about the Bears 2nd pick. That would mean our most likely options, at best, at 39 are probably Judkins, Johnson, or Skat. Some are ok waiting til late, but those are probably the options if going with a RB in the early 2nd.
Would love to get T.Henderson in the 2nd but would be just fine with Judkins or Johnson in the 2nd and would be just fine passing on any with the first 3 picks and drafting RB with the 3rd or even later.

A 2 inch difference in wingspan is significant. Matthews also has longer arms at 33 3/8

Will Campbell would be the outlier of outliers. Maybe he will be a one in a million outlier and be a stud LT. It’s not impossible. Just not sure why anyone would take that bet because it’s extremely, extremely unlikely.

They have a huge hole at playmaker and offensive weapon however.

Warren will likely be better than Kmet and whoever the #3 WR ends up being.
I think he'll be better than Kmet but i'm just fine sticking with Kmet. I've always been his biggest fan on here when everyone was hating on him and calling him cold cement.

After reading thru this thread it’s clear most are underrating Ben Johnson. Worried about the value of a player he’d be hand selecting for his offense. IF the Bears took Tyler Warren, there would obviously be a plan to maximize his value.

I didn't watch the game but someone did say he had 6 catches for 75 yards and when a offensive weapon has a bad, well in this case still a good game but not great game, it isn't always that weapons fault.

I don’t doubt Warren will be better than Kmet. I just don’t think it’s going to be a giant gap between the 2. But if Kmet plays like he did last year and does his stupid ass podcasts rather than focusing on football, they need to cut bait ASAP. I understand the lack of targets were not on him but his blocking wasn’t good/he just regressed all over the place.

Well he won't get a better play caller than Ben Johnson to show what his ceiling is in the NFL so i'm really excited to see how much he's used next year. I think he needs a mean streak. I think he's too nice of a guy and sometimes that shows up in games. I've seen him put his shoulder down and hit a guy after catching the ball but i think he needs that mean streak when it comes to blocking. Knock a guy on his ass even if you don't really need to hit him that hard. That's what i'd like to see, but try not to get too many bad penalties doing it. Sometimes i'll take a penalty for a big hit as long as it doesn't cost us a game.
