The problem is this is the logic that led the bears to trading the exact pick that turned into Cooper DeJean for Montez Sweat and thirty-second overall for Chase Claypool.A defender at that selection would not be expected to outperform Thibodeaux, at least not in the short term.

If you have so little faith in your draft process that you’re just assuming every pick after the first round or two is just going to be a bust—and that’s its just better to trade those picks away for aging (expensive) vets—then you’re just never gonna make it. The organization isn’t going to be successful. You will just wallow until you get new people in charge.
