My favorite teams
Post news and player info here!
That AHL allignment just reminds me of the NHL one coming next year and how different everything will be...
Taffe was signed by MINN btw, so he wont be in Rockford
I wonder if the Rockford/Chicago rivalry picks up this year with Chicago's new NHL affiliation.
Johns and Lavin – as well as fellow defenseman and Blackhawks prospect Shayne Taker -- were part of the Fighting Irish's run to the 2011 Frozen Four. That experience is still fresh in their minds as they take part in this weekend’s prospect camp at Johnny’s Ice House.
Jimmy and Kevin Hayes stood next to each other during their Blackhawks prospect camp practice session on Thursday. At 6-foot-5 and 6-3, respectively, the brothers certainly represent the size the Blackhawks would love to see in the future.
The Blackhawks have another brother duo at prospect camp in Alex and Terry Broadhurst. The two are staying together through their camp stay; and given their brotherly rivalry, they said that could lead to some angst.
“I always got picked on,” said Shaw, who added that even the road hockey games with his brothers were intense. “They were always ganging up on me.”
Battling his brothers has served the 5-foot-10, 180-pound right wing well. Shaw hasn’t been afraid to drop the gloves in his Ontario Hockey League tenure, even if he’s been outsized. But that’s hardly the only facet of his game, and throughout this weekend at the Blackhawks’ prospect camp at Johnny’s Ice House, Shaw has shown a few of them.

Strengths: Several years of smart drafting has led to Chicago having incredible depth at both forward and defense. The Hawks benefited from forwards Ben Smith and Marcus Kruger in the playoffs this year but the most impressive performance was turned in by rookie blueliner Nick Leddy who played with poise beyond his years. Big wingers Jeremy Morin, Kyle Beach and Kevin Hayes all project as power forwards with the ability to both score and use their large bodies to play an effective grinding game. The defense is headlined by a number of offensively gifted defensemen with the aforementioned Leddy leading the way. Weaknesses: Although Corey Crawford is becoming a star in the NHL, Chicago's depth between the pipes in terms of prospects continues to be the club's biggest weakness. Top 5 Prospects: 1. Nick Leddy, D, 2. Dylan Olsen, D, 3. Jeremy Morin, LW, 4. Kyle Beach, LW, 5. Kevin Hayes, LW. Lost to graduation: Viktor Stalberg.
DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings today announced that defensemen Logan Pyett and Garnet Exelby have both signed one-year contracts with the team.
Exelby, 29, brings over 600 games worth of professional hockey experience to the Red Wings organization, having previously played for the Atlanta Thrashers (NHL) and Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL) as well as the Chicago Wolves (AHL) and Rockford IceHogs (AHL). The 6-foot-1, 215-pound blue-liner was selected by the Thrashers in the seventh round (217th overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft and has gone on to register 7G-43A-50P-584PIM in 408 career NHL games. A native of Ste. Anne, Manitoba, Exelby spent the 2010-11 campaign with the IceHogs where he recorded 77GP-3G-10A-13P-128PIM to go along with a rating of plus-7.
Signed as an unrestricted free agent by the Colorado Avalanche to a one-year contract.
Are the Hayes bros playing in rockford this year?
I believe 1 is, and the other is going back for another year at Boston. Let me check for you
For Kevin, this is a chance to work out with fellow prospective Blackhawks before heading back to Boston College, where he played with Jimmy last season. For Jimmy, however, he’s hoping this weekend’s work leads to a potential spot on the Blackhawks in the near future.
“We’ll see what happens. I’ll try to get my game to the highest level and hopefully I have a shot of making this team,” he said. “You come in and you want to be competitive and you want to show everyone your game and hope to get to another level.”
Jimmy Hayes signed a three-year, entry-level deal with the Blackhawks in March. His size is immediately appealing – the 6-5 forward weighs in at 233 pounds, just a few higher than what he calls his “playing weight” of 230. He decided to go pro after a great tenure at Boston College, where he helped the Eagles win the 2010 national title.
