More on Burden from Fishbain via The Athletic:
In the span of a week, it went from worries about Chicago Bears wide receiver Luther Burden III’s injury to seeing him thrown out of a drill for being in the wrong spot to his No. 87 being written over and over in every notebook at Halas Hall.
The second-round pick had himself a day on Thursday, starting with the second set of team drills. Quarterback Caleb Williams dropped one in the bucket to Burden, who was running a deep over route from right to left. Burden had cornerback Tyrique Stevenson on his hip, but he made the catch for a long gain.
A few plays later, quarterback Tyson Bagent hit Burden for another explosive play on the right sideline. Those two connected twice on the next series as well.
“I feel like today was a great day, a great day to play football, a great day to get better, compete, all that type of stuff,” Burden said. “It just felt good to be back out there with the guys, creating that bond with the coaches, teammates, everybody. It felt good.”
Burden seems all the way back from the hamstring injury that kept him out of OTAs, minicamp and the first few days of training camp. He said he has been working with quarterbacks and coaches before practice to catch up and build rapport.
“It’s only been two days of some team drills, and the play speed stood out to me (Wednesday),” coach Ben Johnson said. “I was really impressed by that. Still working on the alignment and details as you’d expect for a young player. But the play speed stood out to me.”
Earlier this week, Johnson had to pull Burden for not being aligned correctly. That message got to the rookie, and we certainly didn’t see any issues Thursday.
“I feel like I’ve got to know my stuff,” he said. “He holds everybody to a high standard here. It’s great for us, great for the team, and that’s the standard here.”
