What an ending
What a silly rant. It doesn't matter that he isn't Ruth, Gehrig or DiMaggio. He's been a great ambassador for the Yankees and baseball in general since getting to the Show.
Jeter is one of the best hitting shortstops ever, but he's also the worst fielding shortstop ever.
So, yes, he is overrated in the regards that people call him "the greatest shortstop ever".
Note: I didn't suggest he wasn't hyped. That may be why I mentioned Ruth, Gehrig and Dimaggio, so it would be you who is completely wrong because you can't read posts for shit.Completely wrong. He's always been overhyped.
One big thing you missed is that NY is the media capitol of the world. It isn't just about the Yankees. He's a star who has kept his nose clean his entire career in that setting. It's a function of playing for the Yankees where the economics of baseball allows him to repeatedly get to the post season.
If he played for Pittsburgh or KC, it's a different story. His value is completely tied to the Yankees team success, which also includes their deep pockets. There are people who act like Jeter invented the throw to first from deep in the hole. It's absurd.
The more sabermetrics improve, the more reliable those awards will be.The 3000 hits speaks for itself and this is why he deserves to be in the hall of fame. His gold gloves are an absolute joke, however.
