I would assume this in the lineup tonight. Its going to be emphasis on D.

CF Fowler, LF Bryant, 1B Riz, 2B Zobrist, SS Addi, RF Heyward 3B Baez, C Ross, Lester.

Given that Maddon is a defensive manager he must cringe everytime Soler takes the field. He is lumbering and lazy going after balls. In these series you would have to take him out in the 6th inning or risk disaster. As far as hitting, now he has to face good pitchers and they know better than to give him a fastball. It will be all breaking shit for him so lets see if he is a game changer

He did ok last year, do you not consider the cardinals and Mets good pitching when he was the only guy producing?

Cause last year matters. The reality is he has been constantly hurt. When he plays defense it's like he doesnt care. He lumbers and falls as he lazily chases the ball. His hitting has been well below the league average. Yup, that makes me feel good

I'm thinking that they will stack the line up R vs Bum. L vs Shark. Tonight I agree with S. Play a tight D with Bryant at LF and Baez at 3B.

vs Bum you would almost think Soler in RF and Bryant in LF with Baez at 3B. All 3 can launch any pitch into the drink.

Zobrist in left tonight, Javy at 2B.

Completely agree. Zobrist has been late to the base on double plays and Javy has all the range. Not sure Lester is happy about it but take that from last years 25 million you shorted us on.

Soler made it because his bat is vastly superior to Szczur (.769 vs .712 OPS for the year with the advantage to Soler; .864 vs .690 in the second half advantage Soler) and Almora can give you everything Szczur did except a potential stolen base but Szczur had all of 2 SB with 4 CS on the year so that's not really something to think about.

Szczur is a solid baseball player but made completely redundant by Almora where as Soler provides a skill (hitting) that neither guy really does. And Soler is a starter against a guy like Moore that you're simply not going to start Szczur in a playoff game.

Jon Lester last two years

Innings - 205, FIP - 2.92, WAR 5.0
Innings - 202, FIP - 3.41, WAR 4.3

Tell me which year was this year and which year was last year.

SF pen sucks. So expect the starters pushed in innings to get to Romo. Thus LHPH will hold more value in this case. Most likely games 1-2 will be RHSP that both most likely pushed past the 100 pitch mark. Then a RH SU that is shakey and Romo. Guys like LaStella and Cog's will be in play more.

Almora due to the D first mentality. You expect low scoring games. Thus tightening the D late inning.

Anyone else find it strage that he keeps almora on the roster for defense.....then in game 1 we take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 8th and maddon sends zobrist back out to lf for the 9th?

This after watching zobrist turn an easy line drive out into a 2 out double (and likely a run if posey was hustling at all)

I get that of defnese will be more important in sf than chicago (although he'll likely start soler in lf in games 3 & 4 vs bum and moore) but i really dont get the non move yest.

He went with Zobrist in the ninth because a one run game is quick to pull Zobrist's bat out of the game.

with that strategy why ever make a defensive move?

All these games should be tight low scoring games where late inning defense will be a premium.....if he's not going to use almora there, then why have him on the roster?

Another 9th inning lead and no almora for defense?

Not a big deal yet.... but if he's not able to go play defesne in the 9th with a lead not sure why he's even on the roster.
