No doubt he is scared. New house, new smells, and I am sure all the change has him wondering whats gonna happen next. Just be patient. I know you will be, and he will warm up to you.

Good looking dog. Just give him some time to adjust and he'll be fine.

I think it's great that the rescue shelter has done some basic obedience training and he knows basic commands and is house trained. That's awesome.

I wouldnt sweat him hiding away. In fact, later on, you will be happy he feels so comfortable in the crate. It will make things so much easier.

But as Supra said, get to his level and be patient. I am a bit surprised that he would not have scurried around your pad a bit, but with a shelter dog, you dont always know exactly what the dog's past is. If it continues for a few days, I would close the crate door for some time so he cant go it and prevent some other hiding places like behind couch and under bed, then open it back up if he gets way nervous. I wouldnt push it too much at first, but I am sure he will come around.

Is the goal to lose the crate? If it's one of those 2 piece ones that clip together, get rid of the top half for a few days, then the bottom and just leave the dog bed/pillow/blanket for him.

Im fine with him hanging out in his crate if he wants to. Although I think I might lock it up today kind of force him to get used to the rest of the house. If I put him on the leash, he will go upstairs and downstairs without fighting it. This morning he did come upstairs and jump in my bed for a bit after I took him outside at 6am.

Hes getting alot better now, almost getting him to go to different floors of the house he will follow me like halfway up or down the stairs then decide hes gone to far and turns around, but on the main floor he isnt constantly in the crate anymore I will hear him dickin around with his toys. Last night I didnt lock him in his crate I left it open, no piss or shit anywhere so the perk that hes house trained is pretty true, be 7 days thursday with out even a slip up. and he likes the dupage river.

Hey, you got a great pooch! He'll get more comfortable over time.

I wish me and my wife were home enough to get one too. Wouldn't be fair to a dog.
