Hopefully this isn't a sign of things to come. I'd much rather get blown out 9-1 than give a game away because Marmol can't locate his pitches.

Damn it, can't believe Dempster pitched so well. Absolutely no run support.

Nobody should be bitching.

Dempster got knocked around all fucking day long. Gale force winds saved him from 4-5 home runs. Call it pitching to the conditions, I call it a 10-1 loss in June, July, August. No sinkerballer tries to leave the ball up...even with the wind howling in.

Allowing Straburg to get the first 7 outs of the game in 16 pitches. Then continuing to swing at the first pitch all day. Even fucking Dempster did in 2 of his ABs.
Soriano's boneheaded out stealing 3rd.
Wood not finding the plate 3 straight hitters and Sveum not bringing in Marmol.
Marmol pitching in a tie game...see his track record without a lead.
Mather running on contact with 1 out in the 9th.
The overall lack of even ONE hitter on this roster that can find the cheap seats on a day with the wind blowing in.

It's gonna be a long year and we all saw it coming. Just get used to it.

We're not bitching because the team sucks. I'm fairly certain every single board member and Cubs fan understands this team isn't good. We're upset that we lost a close game. All the stuff you said was true, I don't think you'd have anyone disagree. Honestly, I thought Strasburg was going to come out throwing fire and put us in a deep hole. We were able to stick around until the end, and I'd assume all of us are bummed that we weren't able to close out the game.

The Cubs had absolutely zero plate discipline. The lack of run support and ability to put the ball in play is going to haunt us all year. It just sucks that we started off on the wrong foot on opening day.

I think Dempster would've tried to get more ground balls and keep the ball low if the wind weren't blowing in like a typhoon.

I almost have to agree that the Cubs wanted to attack Strasburg early in the count on his 'get ahead' fastballs.

The problem is, you're facing a guy who's in his first REAL start coming off of TJ surgery. He's got a 160 IP limit and Washington has already said they plan on cutting pitch limits if he has stressful innings.

So we go out there with the wind howling in, and hack away? You could tell the ball wasn't leaving the yard today, so why are we going out there trying to drive fastballs instead of making Strasburg work for outs?

I'm just a couch-manager, but today's approached sucked IMO.
