Me and a buddy used to hardcore gamble on little league baseball

NOTHING in which wealthy people stand to gain, or lose large amounts of money, is left to chance.

The reason why this can happen is because there is no accountability among refs. They can blow calls, admit they messed up, and they still have jobs. There's not many other positions where you can make million dollar mistakes every week and still have a job.

No, probably not.

It would be a poor decision from a business standpoint - The risk of killing the golden goose is far too great. And the NFL is mindful about anything that might "tarnish the shield".

Still, conspiracy theories are fun, and anytime your team is losing, it's easy to blame the refs and imagine the league is out to get you.

It is far more likely, however, that the real reason is that the team just isn't very good - Yesterday, it wasn't the refs that missed an extra point or through a pick-six.

I'm pretty sure the NFL is not cheating. I am talking about NFL refs. Individuals. And the Bears suck, but I think they are moving in the right direction. Yesterday the Cowboys were stopped at the end by the Packers by bogus calls. And there are countless other games, where it'd make sense if a ref or two were making false calls to line their pockets.

I treat the NFL more like WWE now than competition. Still love it though. I believe there are analysts at NFL that write the script for every week based on what will sell the most. There’s the comeback kid, the persevering vet, the washed vet, the bust draft pick, and the controversial defensive player accused of a crime.

Yeah, it's not just the Bears. The league seems to pick and favor some teams each year. Like you said the Cowboys, Bears, and Saints just kept getting picked on yesterday until the outcome of the game changed- the refs really determined the outcome there- and the no review in the Bills game. I don't think it's a gambling thing, I think it's like the 90's NBA where they want to control the narrative and drive interesting matchups come playoff and/or draft time.

I don't get why they do it. The NFL really is too big to fail right now and is a drama creating machine. They should just sit back and let it all unfold.

I have no doubt that refs get things wrong, and when it's against your favorite team, it may feel conspiratorial. I sincerely that is the case, however, or that anyone is out to get the Bears or any other team.

The recipe is simple: In order to win more, play better.

Tell that to the 02 Sac Kings lol. If you think Donaghy is the only ref and only sport that occurred I don’t know what to tell you. I’d wager it’s much worse now than back then

When you throw a flag for an average sack cause it's again Tom Brady it's pretty clear the games are rigged.

You guys that can't see that are just lying to yourselves.

Exactly. The refs have an incredible amount of power and almost zero responsibility. The majority of refs I'm sure are good people who take their jobs seriously. But if a ref doesn't like one of your players or the coach it's going to be a long day. Add in the crazy amount of money in this game and things can go bad very quickly.

Agree. Something needs to change. Somehow hold refs accountable or have rules committee change rules to allow coaches to challenge referee bad calls or non-calls. I have been a Bears fan for years and I am sick of watching all the bad calls going against the Bears.

I think that the NFL does use the officiating to help put the teams they want to into the play-offs because of the advertising, merchandising, and television revenue that is generated. I believe that it is a subtle wink wink , nod nod , kind of thing. No money changing hands but it is there. This crap has gone on for a very long time in the NFL.

With the legalization of sports books across the country and Daily Fantasy running rampant, do you think refs are cheating?

To me, it seems like it would be really easy. If I am a ref, I tell my closest confidant what to bet and bet big. Split the winnings.

Now even before sports books, shit calls were always around. But it just seems that many NFL games have too many bogus calls.

And you can give me the "integrity of the game and refs" speech but it just seems really easy for a ref to make a little( or a lot) of side money these days.

This isn't something I think about too much, but cheating and sports have been around since organized crime days.

Even if a ref didn't want to affect the win or loss, he could still bet the over/under or any other prop bet or whatever. It seems really easy.

Any thoughts on this? Curious to see all the different opinions.

If I had to choose, I'd say the refs are indeed cheating with these calls.
Let me tell you an unfomfortable truth that not only your but many bears fans really dont want to hear. Some bears fan who dont have their head up their asses and arent total meatballs will understand. The Bears are not relevant enough to be cheated!!! Officiating in the NFL is simply shit at times. Every game has bad calls. There is no conspiracy against Chicago.

Your response has nothing to do with sports betting, spreads, and a zillion other off the wall random bets that exist. Sure the bears aren’t relevant….but the bets and $$$ are.

So the refs are cheating to cover gambling spreads? So obviously theyre making money off of this so whos paying them and wheres your evidence to back this up? Do you spend a lot of money on aluminum foil?

Another meatball who has missed my point. This has nothing to do with Chicago. I am talking about individual refs blowing calls for the benefit of themselves. It could be Vikings versus Bengals, you name it. If a ref wanted to make a couple bucks on the under recieving yds on Justin Jefferspin, he would throw flags on long balls his way. Quit thinking of only the Bears! You're a true Chicago Meatball!
