Interesting read and hard to really disagree much. You just never know what could happen if he sustains another hit that lays him out. Is it worth the risk? I say no. Like the article said, he's got a big trophy case that he's filled. He conquered the NHL and the Olympics. He showed he was the best at the game. It's so unfortunate and tragic what happened to him and at only 24 years of age. He had such an amazing career starting. I'll admit I wasn't a big fan of his, but I'm sad to see that this happened to him. Nobody wants to see someone have to leave what they love out of risk of injury, but unfortunately the game of hockey can be cruel. Best of luck to Crosby in whatever he does.

After all this research that has been done on concussions, If I were him I would hang em up. His life is > hockey.....He will just have to come to terms with that. Im sure that will be hard.

This is some of the saddest news I have seen in a long time. Dude was going to be one of the GOATS. It is not fair to the game and the fans for this to happen.

Sad that this might be how it all ended.

What a stupid article.

We still don’t know how badly Crosby is hurt.

Perfect! Nobody knows how bad he is. Better retire before you find out.

Another gem:
There are no goals left for him in the game.

Mind numbingly stupid.

Nicely said.

If it does come down to the point of him having to retire, then I am sure it will be discussed at that time. We are a long, long way away from that point though.

Nobody knows how bad this is at this point or where it is going to end up. Not even Crosby and the Doctors. Things can change instantly for a concussion victim, and he has plenty of time.

I don't see why he would retire. If he does, he should at least explain that the concussion was bad.

Look kid, you're 24 and you've already done it all. Sure, you could get better or you could get worse. Doctors aren't sure either way right now. Rather than just waiting further and taking all the time you need, you should jump to the conclusion that retirement right now is the way to go.

Trust me. I wear glasses.

From the article:

Back on April 30, when Crosby revealed he'd suffered a setback, Shero said, "The great news is, he's got all kinds of time on his side right now."

That no longer is the case. Camp is right around the corner.

Oh yeah, he's absolutely out of time. If he's not good to go for training camp- all bets are off. He'll be done for good. Career finished.

Good thing he's already accomplished everything a hockey player could want.

 The doctors dont know, but he is still experiencing symptoms from January, thats enough to sound an alarm on this situation. whether he has won everything he could or not, has no relevance to retiring. decorated or not, this is a serious problem for him.

If every professional athlete with some form of brain damage retired now, the leagues would be decimated.

That is the price to pay when you get paid like a king.

Sidney Crosby suffers setback, may miss start of season - CTV News

Oh, and he is having symptoms again.

With all the research on concussions and the extreme danger of them, to state that he wont retire is just plain stupid. If he is still having symptoms there obviously is a problem.

Who said that he isn't going to retire?

What I am seeing is most people are saying it is way to soon to say that he is going to retire. It is way too soon to make a judgment on something like this.

Dave Bolland was out with a concussion for a while (obviously everyone here knows that). He said he was experiencing symptoms for a while and then one day he woke up and everything seemed to click and he was good to go again.

Concussions are a tricky thing, and to jump to conclusions on one this early (yes, it is still very, very early) is foolish.
