He’s an interesting case study because he looked like garbage for 2-3 years. Like he had major accuracy issues and lacked good decision making. He’s definitely progressed significantly, but something in my gut wonders if last year was a little bit of an anomaly.

We shall see. Good for the Bills in sticking with him and properly developing him as a QB.
If it was, the Bills would f*cked!!!

I only really watched him their final playoff game last season, and he wasn't that impressive. He air mailed a lot of balls down the field.

I guess I rarely watch AFC games, so maybe it was just a bad performance.

Thats fair assessment. I watched him play and he didnt jsut improve he looked like a different QB. I think hes legit. I wouldnt be surprised if he had an even better season this year. In fact i expect it.

Makes sense why Trubisky would want to go there for a taste or whatever the coaches' secret sauce is.
I think it's more likely that Trubisky had very few options.

shouldn't we start looking into extending Fields? these things are a domino effect
Well I mean, we can sign him for $40M/yr now or $55M/yr in 5 years from now. Make the right decision Pace

Kinda surprised by the reaction here tbh. If a Bears QB went 4500/37/10, people would be pounding their fists on the table to lock him up. Agree with the sentiment it's a gamble, but the Bills know he's capable of that production and that's franchise level production. We'd all kill for those numbers for a Bears QB.

I'll be the first to admit, I thought he was destined to bust. He played at Wyoming and his numbers weren't great. He's the best chance the Bills have at winning anything over the next 5 years - I wouldn't hate it if I was a fan.

Chiefs the only team that has not regretted ponying up at the qb position when their rook deal was over?

Rams after signing Goff were bribing teams to get him off their books. Watson and Texans. Wentz/Eagles. Mitch and Bears ended up perfect timing financially for the break up.

Unless that QB plays at the level of a Mahomes (and NOT the SB stinker of last year Mahomes), NO QB is worth that type of contract.

You simply can’t devote that much cap to one player that needs a solid team around him to be successful.

IMO, they just should have waited another year to make him prove that he can be consistent. Especially when you have evidence with early deals done like Goff and Wentz that it doesn't always work out. I understand the mindset that the cost of a qb is going to keep increasing, but man...that is a lot of money for someone that has only had one really good year.

Looking at the qb contract values, that crap is insane. I have to wonder at what point do the owners find a way to limit the maximum value for a contract for a single player. The last couple of years reminds me of how the old rookie contracts got insane and so they implemented the rookie wage scale. I have to wonder if they will do something eventually that like limits the max value of a contract to a certain % of the cap.

If they don’t, teams are going to have to build a solid team first, and then add whatever QB they can afford to lead it. There will be no other choice…

This is a smart signing for buffalo.

His development took the same arc as Brees, Rivers, and Ryan.

Top shelf run games, good defense, and a higher than average percentage of passes early on coming in obvious passing downs due to leaning on the run game.

He shows the same improvement the above guys did in comfort due to earning greater pass attempts on 1st and second down.

Someone mentioned he looks like a different guy- he does because he gets a hell of a lot more passes on less obvious passing downs.

2020 they opened up the playbook on first and second, 80% of his attempts were on first and second down, and he was lights out- 29 tds, 8 picks and about 70% completion rate.

He appears to be the real deal that was brought along slowly due to an advantageous situation. Almost a dead nuts on echo of Brees, Ryan and Rivers.
