Disclaimer: This thread is not meant to troll at all. I was having this discussion with a big Cubs fan the other day and thought I'd get some opinions from over here.

Okay, so has your opinion about the Cubs changed in the past few years?

Mine has. If I missed games, I'd look up the Sox score and then I would look up the Cubs score, hoping that they lose. There used to be satisfaction out of seeing the Cubs fail time and time again. But they also used to be competative. Obviously, they made the playoffs awhile ago, but at the very least they would be in the division hunt up until August or September. It seems like the past few years, they don't even compete at all and it has changed my hatred for them. It has ALMOST gotten to the point of pity. I feel sorry for their fans. Don't get me wrong, I don't ever want to see them win a World Series, but I wouldn't mind seeing them being more competative. And I know some Cubs fans are optimistic about the future under Theo, but with the mess he left in Boston, the way they changed how the draft works so he can't manipulate it anymore, and how they don't really have much in their system to actually make trades to help the team, I really don't see them getting much better in the next 2-4 years.

Is anyone on the same boat?

I don't hate the Cubs. Never have, probably never will.

No in my league, not in my division, I don't even live in Chicago, or Illinois for that matter.

That's the spirit :woot:

I honestly don't care what fans of other teams think of the Cubs. It only matters what I think :cubstroll: :D

Okay, Gunz, I'm done quasi-trolling your thread. This is an interesting discussion and I know that while some White Sox fans aren't big proponents of the Cubs, others are ambivalent and some folks actually root for both. It's fine with me, really, because what others do (as long as they don't shoot guns off or throw grenades) won't affect me.

Oh it's fine, my friend! All opinions are welcome, I was just curious. I know there are plenty of Cubs fans who like the Sox and visa-versa... I also know that there are people like me who love one team and hate the other team. I was just wondering if the current situation the Cubs find themselves in has changed some opinions a little bit. I know mine has changed a bit!

100% agree, though I do like hating the Cubs so I do hope they get to the point to get 65 wins again so I can resume my hatred.

I don't "like" any of the teams in our division, but I "like" them better then the Cubs :)

I don't either. I just think its strange 77 hates the Cubs but likes the Twins

Especially because up until last season, the Twins were probably our biggest rival.

I wouldn't say I hate the Cubs... but I get some sort of sick, twisted, joy out of seeing them fail. It's just such a baaaaaaad franchise, that year in and year out, seems to continue to suck. I don't know. Sorry, Cubs fans, if I have offended you.

I love baseball for starters.

But a couple of things....

1) If the cubs win 100 games or win the WS I wouldnt give any fucks unless it was against the sox.

2) I think the Theo love is gone overboard because of his reputation of winning....which fans tend to forget he inherited a much better team than the cubs, he had open pocketbooks.

3) The big question remains...what if they still arent good in 3-5 years? than what? But most cub fans will say "no (theoism) will make sure we are contenders, he is the bestest ever" and completly disregard the fact that there is a descent chance that this idea is going to fail.

I dont feel sorry for the 16 year old know it all fans that stroke the **** of theo and the cubs, I do feel sorry for those who are old as **** wanting to see their team win a WS before their life is over. The ones that have actually been waiting a long ass time....not a couple of years.

I have noticed a lot of trends with the younger cub fans, they seem to be naive. No matter what the cubs do, its always right...always. If theo spends a ton of money...its right. If he is cheap and goes with specs.....he is right. I really hate fans that reassure themselves that things will be ok.....its not a big deal to admit that you have no idea what is right anymore.

Seriously you don't like a team that doesn't have any effect on whether your team makes the postseason more than the teams that directly affect that. My "dislike" of the White Sox is at best the 18th worst team in baseball.

1) The feeling vice versa is the same. The only thing that I didn't appreciate was having Sox fan actively throw it in my face when it happened, which did occur at the time. If it wasn't for the fact I would have cared about the White Sox winning as much as the Atlanta Braves.

2) The love may be overboard, but as we discussed Theo stepping into the job is at worst the third best GM in Cubs history. The Cubs were a mess according to you, and the route that he has gone is the only one available. As I've said before I think we have a right to be excited about what is taking place because it is truly different than what has done before.

3)The answer to number 3 is simple, if the Cubs aren't on the path to be contenders by 5 years then Theo will be out of a job. That doesn't mean that they have to win a championship in that time frame, but if the team is still at this point 5 years from now Ricketts will go back to the drawing board. It doesn't matter what Cubs fans think, and I don't know what your fascination with their opinions seems to be, e.g. your repeated use of theoism, whatever that means.

The biggest thing I wonder after reading this post is whether I count as a young or old Cub fan.
