2 Questions here:

A. Is this player a HOF'er, or Hall of Very Good?

2. Can you name the player?

14 years experience. Over his career: 16.1 ppg, 9.1 rpg, .485 fg%, 19.4 PER, 110 Ortg, 101 Drtg
1 championship, 4 all-star game appearances.

118.9 Win share similarity scores with: Pippen, Dantley, McHale, Wilkins, Barry, Chet Walker

The team that drafted him had a +26 wins.

Among active players:
14th in games played
14th in points
4th in total rebounds

Player to be named tomorrow unless it has been answered.

Really interesting case.

I'll leave someone else to name the player, but its tough. Isn't the basketball HOF less exclusive than other professional halls.

I'd say yes for hall of fame.

Yes, he's going to get in. He'll be that *3rd guy* that gets listed when inductees are announced, due to his private nature(ie: ESPN Article headline, Garnett named to HOF and in subtext of the article, Oh and YOUR GUY(SM) too)

Very good Crys, I honestly didn't think most people would get who it was.

Perhaps, at least in my mind, the most under-appreciated player of his time.

The Matrix will and should get in... Although he probably won't be a first ballot HOFer or anything like that.

See I'd agree with that. I wouldn't have started the thread if I didn't think he'd get in, but maybe not a first ballot guy.

Basketball HOF is a joke. The NBA needs its own HOF or a shared NBA/ABA one. Take some time to look at who is in the NBA. They have highschool coaches and shoe salesmen. They have entire teams.

There is no reason to give that HOF a thought.

Any Basketball Hall of Fame without Chuck Taylor, is a joke.

IMO when you have skills like he did (in his prime 20+ ppg with 11 rpg, 2 steals, 2 blocks) you should get in. Not a first ballot type of player, but a worthy player, especially considering other similar players.

Not enough for me. His stats are nice but not great. Led the league in stat categories only twice in steals. For me he fails the eye test. Above average starter, but not HOF for me.

Fair enough. We obviously disagree. He's just been a very solid player for the majority of his career. He's a fringe candidate for sure, but a guy I'd like to see get his due.

There are a few guys that I personally consider amazing players, that didn't make it into the Hall. Stats wouldn't really justify just how these guys played the game either. Guys that busted their ass and didn't aim to get big stats, just fill holes in a team at an amazing level. IMO if teams built around these guys more, they would have been bigger stars in the NBA.

Truck Robinson is a guy I have brought up a few times. He moved around the league just a little to much to get a retired jersey anywhere, but if he stayed in one place, things could have been different. Not saying he should be in the hall, just sad that he didn't get the retired jersey. I've never seen a player quite like Truck Robinson since. He is someone you have to watch a few times to see what he really did. He was one of the few guys that I could remember that would sleep on everyone for a whole game while producing, then once everything was coming to a close, he stuck it into 4 more gears and this dude was in everyone's shadow until the final buzzer. Stats can't explain things like that, and it's not like he was being lazy at all for the other 44 minutes or so. Sneakiest big man ever, and it's not even close.

Dominique's snub on the 50 all-time list. I know that's a hard list, but the NBA made a mistake there.

Spencer Haywood not in the Hall. And that is a damn shame.

IMO Maurice Cheeks was a ring away from being a Hall of Famer. He may still get in though based on what he can achieve as a coach. His combined career could be HoF worthy.

Larry Nance, Paul Westphal, Laimbeer... Loads of Hall worthy guys that have been passed over after decade(s) of eligibility.

Dantley made it in 2008, FINALLY(to me at least, he should have been first ballot). He was starting to go forgotten, but in due time, that love comes around.

Marion will get in eventually. Stats help, but he got a ring, which is important for the Hall. His biggest issue is that people will say of his teams, Dirk and Nash have to get in first, which is 100% right. Then he has to get in a line of about 40 other players that will be unanimous. The HoF inducts about 7 on average per year, so do the math there.

He'll probably get in awhile down the road because he got that ring. Honestly though if the basketball hall of fame was actually a real hall of fame he wouldn't even sniff it.
