LOL at the Dungy thing. If true Lovie and Dungy will waste half of each day telling each other how great they are.

CBSSports.com reports: Before hiring former Bears coach Lovie Smith, the Buccaneers made a run at Jon Gruden and Bill Cowher, but both former Super Bowl-winning coaches said they had no plans to leave their broadcasting jobs.

Former Buccaneers coach Tony Dungy is considered a possible target for an upper-management position.

HA- Tampa going after Gruden is like calling your Ex for a booty call at 2 a.m. ..... Seems brilliant and might be fun for a little while but it will eventually turn in to a mess when your head clears.

You guys are sickly out of control. Anybody that is conscious knows that teams every year needing coaches have tried to get Cowher and Gruden back coaching, unsuccessfully, especially Cowher.

Everyone everywhere is making a run at Gruden and Cowher and neither one is coming back.

Does friendship make you uncomfortable?

Could there be a worse potential hire?
Hiring an analyst that has been out of the league for years with no management experience to be the "GM", is this the Matt Millen story? Then throw on top of that he is a former defensive minded coach with near identical ideology as Lovie's. Where will any valuable offensive player assessment come from? Everyone standing around agreeing with each other with no original input is a recipe for disaster. This would be a horrible move for Lovie when trying to enhance his chance to succeed, IMO.

When hiring employees, especially when one is suppose to critically evaluate the other, it does.

That's been the recipe for every NFL coach/front office situation since the league's inception. This news is nothing new it's a classic example of how the good old boy network works. It's why Marinelli is coaching with Kiffin, Marinelli coached with Lovie, Kromer is coaching with Trestman, the NFL is the worst who you know not what you know work situation in the country.

It doesn't matter if he's a competent coach or a competent scout all that matters is they worked with the guy who will be their boss.

It sort of undermines his greatness that Tomlin came in and got another one plus an appearance so fast. Big Ben.

The non-stop taking shots at Lovie by some is understandable, only to the degree that posters are showing their immaturity as he was our former head coach for 9 years. The mocking of Bill Cowher and his abilities on the other hand show a complete lack of knowledge of football.

The Steelers under Cowher were always pretty competitive and won games despite pretty shit QB play up until Big Ben. Before Ben, he never really had a good QB. Once he got one, he won the SB two years later.
