Also yeah, MIN wanted to keep Darnold but is pretty evident they didn’t want to pay him to be a starting QB… you to know.. to start

They literally almost tagged him for 40 million. You think they would have done that for him to sit on the bench? No, it would have been to start.

When the conversations instead turned to a shorter term deal, that made no sense for Darnold, since he would get something more long term in free agency. Why would he sign a 1 or 2 year deal in MIN when he could get 3 years and 55 guaranteed in SEA?

Signing Darnold could have been also an attempt to hold onto him to fetch something in the trade market later.

I watched some Steelers stuff and they're saying 2/$90M which is just insane to me. If the Vikings are out it's clearly because of money.

I think they definitely didn't bring back Darnold because it financially didn't make sense. And if Rodgers wants 45 a year, then it definitely won't happen in MIN for the same reasons.

If the Vikings really wanted to keep Darnold just to trade him, they would have had to tag him since he has the right to decline any other contract offer. The fact that the Vikings continued to negotiate with Darnold after declining to tag him shows that they were interested in having him on the team... they just couldn't agree on the numbers/length of contract most likely.

Do people not understand the “literally” this day in age?

They LITERALLY did not tag him. Sure they thought about it, but that was probably for a tag and trade scenario. Damn dude…

What's his leverage?
He's old and rich and can wait them out or go into politics, plus he played better than Fields did overall.

If Rodgers doesn't sign with them - they're insanely desperate and Wilson can go elsewhere.

They could go get Mason Rudolph again and maybe trade for Milton but it could absolutely blow up in their face and they could be without a QB.

They continued to talk with him even after they declined to tag him. Damn dude...
"According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, though Darnold was officially not tagged, the team and Darnold "will continue to work towards a deal that is best for both sides." The team could still sign Darnold to an extension before free agency begins on March 12."

They wanted him in at lower than the 40 million dollar tag. But again, why would Darnold sign a 1 or 2 year deal with the Vikings knowing that they will eventually move on to JJ when he can go to Seattle and be the long term starter?

Wow, good job finding one of the likely hundreds of articles that give their opinion on the matter. Here’s another:

“For years, Minnesota’s brass has wanted to build a roster around a rookie quarterback contract. The Vikings drafted J.J. McCarthy last year with the No. 10 pick. He remains the organization’s future even after tearing his meniscus last preseason. Re-signing Darnold would have complicated the runway to McCarthy.

Had Darnold had a smaller market, the Vikings would have been in a tricky position. Bringing back Darnold on a lesser deal might have made sense, but it would have raised complications. Darnold winning a competition versus McCarthy would have spurred questions about McCarthy, and McCarthy winning might have placed Darnold in an interesting spot.”

This is what it comes down to. Anyway I’m done with this obviously argument. You aren’t even remy and I’m not getting into a vortex with you lol

Lmao if you’re thinking about retirement, you should retire.
Rodgers needs attention like people need oxygen. He needs people talking about him, speculating, begging him to come play for the team they root for. He's narcissistic and if he ever does retire, it will be at the very end of a long offseason so the talk can go on.

Where is elsewhere? The music stopped. The chairs are filled.

It's NYG and Pittsburgh. If Rodgers doesn't go to Pitt, he'll be in NY. That leaves one chair for Russ, and he's not naming his salary.

That wasn't an opinion I posted, it was a report by a respected insider. Do you not know the difference?

I never realized you were this dense. Noted for the future!

Not gonna happen. And I was referring to “seat warming” as in the comment about JJ not being ready to START the season. Rodgers is not coming to a team under that premise.

Barring medical concerns, I’d bet my mortgage that MIN wants to and will push to see JJ start this season.

Imagine having your 1st round QB on the bench for half of his rookie contract. LMFAO.
They've sure been building it up here. There was talk about the letting Jones sign the contract with Indy, but no mention of Rodgers

What's next for QB Rodgers, Jets?

nyj.png
  • It’s Aaron Rodgers Day. The Jets are expected to release him when the league year begins at 4 p.m. They will designate him as one of their two post-June 1 cuts, allowing them to spread the cap hit over two years.
  • With one door closing, will another open? Rodgers could pick his next team today. Will it be the Giants or Steelers? The Giants remain hopeful, I’m told, but my money is on the Steelers. -- Rich Cimini, Jets reporter

The Minnesota Vikings have reportedly decided that J.J. McCarthy will be their starting quarterback in the 2025 season, according to a report by Tom Pelissero. Additionally, Aaron Rodgers is not an option for head coach Kevin O’Connell.

“The likely scenario now is that the Vikings will roll with last year’s first round draft pick J.J. McCarthy as their starting quarterback in 2025. I would anticipate they’re going to continue to pursue a veteran, but this will be a backup situation. I do not expect it to be Aaron Rodgers. Look for J.J. McCarthy, barring something unforeseen, to be the Vikings’ starting quarterback in 2025.”

Pelissero also mentioned that the Vikings made an offer similar to the Colts’ to sign Daniel Jones, but the former Giants quarterback preferred the opportunity in Indianapolis. After falling short in their attempt to win the Super Bowl with Sam Darnold, Minnesota is ready to start a new project
