anyone see mavs v lakers last night?

just wanted to point out that Lamar Odom, upon his first return to los angeles, after belly-aching and cry-babying over almost getting traded, after the questions about his dedication and focus to the game over his half-underachieving years in LA, after demanding to be traded and deciding to go to the team that swept and embarrassed the lakers out of the playoffs the previous year... the LA fans STILL gave him his due respect and applauded his entrance on the court with a warm standing ovation, even though its questionable that he even deserved such a thing.

good game, too.

Are you referring to Bulls fans booing Ben Gordon? I don't necessarily agree with that either...

i expected a lot less from laker fans, and a lot more from bulls fans back then. at least the people here didnt forget what odom did while he was here.

i think i have a little bit more respect for LA fans now. definitely a display of class. they could have booed him and they wouldnt necessarily have been wrong, but they chose not to.

I don't think it's questionable.

Odom was a key player in L.A. He made sacrifices by playing off the bench for a few years after they traded for Gasol, and didn't complain. He took a pay cut in his last contract so he can stay with the Lakers, when he could have signed somewhere else for more money and a starting job.

Then the Lakers traded him without even letting him know.. So he rightfully felt disrespected and asked them to trade him.

**** ben gordon. He was selfish and wanted more money.. The Bulls would have probably given him 7 million a year, but he needed 10. Not only that, he chose to sign with our rivals.

If all of that happened exactly the same, but Ben Gordon helped CHI win a ring.. I'm sure people would have cheered him as well

and if he rejected that deal and left the Bulls, I'm sure everyone would have booed him too.

And I can see why the Bulls gave Deng money over Gordon. Deng was 22 and it seemed like he had a ton of potential.

Gordon was an undersized 2 guard who couldn't defend, pass or dribble and he wanted to be paid like an all-star.

yeah i understand why they didnt give him that much but at the end of it all we ended up with carlos boozer (who ppl are begging to be amnestied/traded) on a worse contract then ben

Though I retired myself from BG discussions & debates over 2 years ago when he left, I felt the need to weigh in here. In the 5 seasons BG played here, he was never treated with respect by the majority of the fans and especially the media in this town. We're talking about a guy who single-handedly got this team into the playoffs his rookie year with his 4th quarter play. Yes, that's right. He was responsible for 12 victories by himself in the 04-05 season. He also led the team in scoring his last 2 seasons here. He was looking for more money, which is true, but when you consider that the fan & media poster-boy, Capt. Kirk, was making close to $10mill & was playing like trash the majority of the time, I can understand BG's reasoning.

It also didn't sit well with him that during the summer of '07, Foreman & Reinsdorf personally flew to London to woo Deng with a huge extension, & basically just gave BG's agent a "take it or leave it offer" of $8mill per with a deadline to sign. BG did absolutely nothing to deserve that kind of treatment. Is he worth $11mill? No, but so are most of the players in this league. Is he a flawed player? Yes, but he did not deserve the lion's share of blame when things went wrong, much like Boozer is getting now.

I am a BG fan & will always be a BG fan, and the reception he received in his first game back here was disgusting, especially considering his play in the Celtics series & the fact that he had 1 of the best playoff performances by a Bull not named MJ, while playing on 1-leg.

BG also put us in a ton of holes. Sure, he had a lot of big games scoring the ball.. but there were also a lot of games where he couldn't stop whoever he was guarding, even if he was trying.. which he didn't do much of. Then there was his famous dribbling the ball all fancy and shit for 19 seconds in one spot and shoot a dumb 3 with someone right in his face.

And like I said earlier, it's easy to see why the Bulls wanted Deng more than they wanted Gordon. I don't think Deng is worth the money he got either, but he can help the team even when he's not scoring, like by playing defense, rebounding and actually hustling. If Gordon isn't scoring, he isn't doing anything else.

And the Bulls had something good going and Ben had a chance to be part of it. He instead chose to take a couple million more to play for our rivals. I don't miss him at all.

Ben Gordon WAS NOT A VICTIM!

Point...blank...period.

Okay I am done.

I'm not trying to calling him a victim, just illustrate how he was disrespected the majority of his time here & the reasoning behind him "taking the money". BG was the leading scorer 2 years in a row & people couldn't believe that he would actually look to get paid more than almighty Capt. Kirk. Everyone wants security in their job. He got it with another team, so good for him, but I don't think that's selfish at all.
