multiple sources say that tampa could look into tampering. If they do and its proven cubs could lose a good player.

do i think they will win? no. do i think where there is smoke there is fire? 100%. must be proven though.

I'd be 51% convinced there was some sort of tampering...some go between guy checking mutual interest before Maddon opted out.

On the other hand, Tampa appears headed the wrong direction and unwilling to fix it fast. Maddon knows he was basically guaranteed a well-paid job within 2 years no matter what.

Nothing will be proven.

That's what they told Al Capone. Put nothing past their GM.

Cubs might have to give up Edwin Jackson to the Rays if they're guilty ;)

PHOENIX -- Both the Chicago Cubs and the agent for new manager Joe Maddon have been contacted by Major League Baseball as an investigation into his hiring has commenced, according to sources familiar with the situation.

The New York Post reported earlier on Monday that MLB was looking into whether the Cubs contacted Maddon before he opted out of his contract with the Tampa Bay Rays late last month. Days later, he signed a five-year deal to manage the Cubs.

"We welcome the MLB investigation," Cubs president Theo Epstein told reporters Monday. "There was no tampering whatsoever. I'd rather they investigate so we can clear our name and move on from this quickly. We're giving our full cooperation and we welcome it."

Sure they tampered. Theo Epstein is just an alias for Pat Riley. Same greasy hair and everything.

From what it sounds like their only evidence is heresay.

Why would Maddon turn down a guaranteed contract? How could the best manager in baseball (IMO) think that he was making under market value in Tampa Bay?" Sorry TB, but you are the worst franchise in baseball. He left for a big market team that has a ton of young talent. I bet he had a good idea a team would be willing to give him more than $2 million this offseason. He even called the Rays and asked for an extra year at $3 mil per and they said nah. Theo reportedly called MLB to verify if the opt-out clause was actually written into his contract and they said yes. Maybe something happened then, but doubtful. Cubs probably could have leaked a report they'd be interested in Maddon, but the Rays have no proof and they are dumb if they think the Cubs or Maddon's group will cough anything up.

Not to mention they are accusing an agent who happens to also represent one of their current managerial candidates LOL. That's not awkward. Usually you don't see the employer as the one burning the bridges but whatever.

Franchise has lost Price, Friedman, and Maddon in a 4 month span. Sour grapes are expected

If the Cubs lose a prospect over this not named Kris Bryant, or Addison Russell, it was worth it.

Winning in the East..Making stars of their players. Being in a World Series the past ten years. I think you misspelled Cubs there.

LOL definitely not. Worst stadium in baseball, smallest payroll in baseball, some of the worst attendance in baseball, worst TV ratings in baseball, inability to keep any level of talent, relocation a real possibility, and no GM in place. You are dumb if you think any organization is in a worse place than the Rays. I understand that you take any chance you can to take a shot at the Cubs, especially now with your window closing, but let's not be ridiculous. You'd be in trouble if your job was selling the prospects of being apart of the Rays organization, especially in comparison to the Cubs.

Awful fan support, unattractive FA destination, terrible stadium. Sound familiar?

So you ignore the 100+ years of losing?

What window do you speak off?

I don't think anything can be proven. There's circumstantial evidence, and everything just so happened to fall into place for the cubs.

Had the cubs shitcanned Ricky Renteria sooner than the opt out--then yeah.

But you cant on circumstantial evidence

Really? I think you should stop now and go back to the Cubbie forum and dream about your bullpen

LOL so you can follow and talk about the franchise everyone in Chicago aspires not to be?

Can't believe you are even trying to compare a franchise that will likely relocate in 5 years, to one that is considered big market. Amazing how delusional haterade makes one become. Yet another Sox fan with an inferiority complex.

Please tell me how much that 2008 WS appearance is helping the Rays these days. Wonder how many FA's they will recruit with that one. Wonder how many of those home made starts will wear Rays jerseys in 2015 lol.

lol inferior. no one sox fan here has a complex about the cubs. it is the cubs fans fallback to everything. "zomfgz you must bezz teh jelisee of usz cusz we have a lot of teh fanz"

oh and your franchise was what every city aspired not to be for the last 120 years so dont get too fancy because of your sure things with your "specs" all of a sudden.

Yet you spend more time worrying about the team north of you, then your own team.

Laugh at the WS drought all you want, I could care less. Not like I've been around for 120 years. I've seen the Packers win a Super Bowl, Blackhawks win multiple Cups, and Bulls win a championship. Not many kids in college can say they've seen 3 of their teams win championships so I'd say I'm pretty lucky. The longer the draught, the more fun it will be if they ever do win one.

At least you guys live in a city where your 1 championship in 90+ years gives you bragging rights. Just find it funny that Sox fans make such an effort to make their voices heard, while Cubs fans are worried about many other teams. Maybe you in general don't but your kidding yourself if you think it's not true. People have a problem when their team is backpage news in their own city, so they just try to put down the Cubs.

again if this forum had other teams id be in those sections too.

real sox fans dont care if we are in the classified section. if there are fans that care about that shit they are we todd did. also the same can be said about cubs fans who constantly talk about how "popular" they are and how many fans they have.

I was merely comparing the Rays as an overall franchise to the rest of MLB. Which apparently was another classic chance to throw an insult at the Cubs.

Point I was making was the Rays are a mess in 2014, the Cubs aren't. There were so many reasons for Maddon to leave, and the fact that they think he was unaware of the fact that he could get a better deal on the open market is absurd.

So you are calling Maddon a liar when he said until a week before he signed with the Cubs he had completely forgotten about the opt out clause. Good to know.

You are the one that brought up worst franchise. That doesn't start with Nov 2014 and go forward. You have to count the past. I didn't go out to slam the Cubs. You allowed it to happen with you easily refuted statement that the Rays are the worst.
