I recall there was one (or two) Chicago-based posters here that professed to have some expertise in my favorite spirit - extra anejo. Can't remember who that was - I'm heading in to the Chi for a family reunion soon and want to take some family/friends out for a few rounds before staggering into the Uber to return to our burbs.

Please PM me if you're the local tequila connoisseur, got a couple questions. And no, Yelp/Google could not answer.

Thanks!

P.S. - Guano, let's both go for the Cali-to-Chi trek, you hop on that Greyhound out of Bakersfield now, wait for me at Portillo's. <3

ND is horrible.
If by tequila you mean Scotch whiskey......

Macallan 12 Yr single might be the perfect spirit.

Well you're not shooting low for shit by going extra anejo. Thats at least 3 years old. My picks would be Gran Centenario Leyenda, Rey Sol, Don Julio Real and Don Julio 1942. None of which are commonly found or cheap. The cheapest of them being Don Julio 1942. Favorite anejo for the price/quality factor would be San Matias.

Actually I just noticed that Don Julio 1942 lost its extra anejo classification since its now aged as little as 2.5 years instead of the 3 years it used to be.

I've just recently gotten started with trying Scotch Whiskey. I started with the all too common Johnny Walker Black. Not sure if it's considered a good one or not to the experienced Scotch drinkers, but I don't mind it.

Somewhere away from fucktards.
Are there any spirits/liquor that Chicago is known for producing?
(and not trying to be a dick, but this should probably be in the bar)

And while it's not producing a uniquely Chicago spirit, the Koval Distillery is doing some interesting things.

Johnny Walkers are generally considered overpriced (especially Blue) and more a product of marketing than anything.....

If you want a good affordable bottle of Scotch any Scotch man would be fine drinking, try the Macallan's 12yr single malt I mentioned....it's like a very basic single malt with some complexity that's a lot of people swear by. I literally have talked to guys who can afford ANY whiskey, and I mean ANY whiskey, who drink this spirit as their go to Scotch.

Glenmorgie Original is an amazing value that I don't personally love, but any spirit with a WS ranking well into the 90s and costing under 40 bucks in places is worth trying/having.

Can't help you on the finer things that is tequila.

I will say Mercadito is a nice place to have a few glasses.

Hell yeah...I'm down! I'm more of a belvedere fan but I'll definitely swing by Death Valley and pick you up in the Winnebago with the wire coat hanger antenna unless you want to mule it to Chi town for the playoffs...whatever year that may be.

I know this is a tequila based thread, but racer if you want to switch it up for an evening from that. I got some great recommendations for craft breweries.

Count me in. Love cool Chicago bars while enjoying a tasty brew, entirely different vibe from the Cali drinkeries.

Thanks, Xero. My home extra anejo sipper brand is Tapatio. I'm heading down to Baja this week (Cabo) and will pick up my favorite at that duty-free shop: Herradura Seleccion Suprema (at DFS it's 40% cheaper (albeit still expensive) then I can source locally).

I've yet to try the Centanario, will keep an eye out for that - appreciate the recommendations!
