Tigers are fucked for the future and giving up a top 10 prospect like that is dumb, but they obviously think they can win WS this year with these moves.

I say they have a much much better chance of winning the division, but I don't think they're better than the Yankees or Rangers and they won't beat either team anyway. But, who knows.

  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Toledo Rockets
I wonder if they'll have the money to lock up Verlander long term? They're paying almosy $60MM to Fielder, Cabrera, and Verlander already.

Verlander will be looking for more than he currently makes. Unless he takes less to stay in Detroit?

They're going to be like the Miami Heat: have a big 3 then just pre-cum.

I guess that depends on whether the owner is still alive and also how many Little Caesar pizzas they can sell

I think they can make a deal happen probably. But maybe it won't be as long term as they would have wanted before.

I still think that sub .500 Tigers team from Mid April till early July is the real Tigers.

Sure, adding Sanchez makes them better, but I think the Sox are still in the race, and I still think they'll pull ahead once Detroit comes back to Earth.

I really don't see how you can believe that. They aren't as good as they are playing right now, but they aren't as bad as they played at their worst. The Tigers may or may not run away with this thing at this point, but what we do know at this point in time is that the Tigers at the major league level got better.

the sox werent as good as their hot streak
the sox arent as bad as their cold streak
same goes for the tigers

next 2 months is going to be based on being consistent and who will be the one who can do that.

im glad i know it was sanchez and infante as im sure they are done trading. time for KW to match or fold.

I don't think the Tigers are a sub .500 team like they were earlier in the year. But they also aren't as good as they're playing right now. They will cool down. The reason they're winning right now is because their lineup is hitting all around. That wasn't happening earlier in the year and probably won't continue, at least not to the extent that it is now.

The Tigers are still a good team and the additions of Sanchez and Infante make them a lot better, but they aren't going to run away with the division either. I believe that unless KW makes a big move for a starter, they will win the division. But I still don't think they are legit contenders for the WS because the Rangers and Yankees are so good. And that's why this move is a little dumb.

Meant to quote ws901's post. My bad. But I agree with you a little bit.

Ah okay I was just confused. The White Sox will get hot again and the Tigers will cool off. The question is who ends up with the most wins at the end of the year. The Tigers took a pretty big step here towards that goal. Doesn't guarantee it, but I like their chances. Wouldn't be shocked if the Tigers lost the division, and I agree that they are notch below the Rangers and probably the Yankees (though similar team in a lot of ways great offense and one clear cut ace with a bunch of eh around them in the staff).

Agree. If either team, Yankees or Rangers, make a move for a SP, then the Tigers are definitely behind them. Same for the White Sox. A move for a SP could change the division. Not saying that adding a SP means the White Sox win the division, but it gives them a better chance.

Sox fans giving up right now is dumb. Tigers fans assuming they'll win the division and maybe more right now are dumb too. It's still only July.

Exactly what I was railing about in late May or early June when the shoe was on the other foot, and I certainly believe it holds true. Rangers are the class of mlb, but that doesn't mean they are going to walk away with the title. Colby Lewis going down for the year definitely hurts them. A lot of teams can still make moves to shake things up.

Gotta chime in on this move despite the conversation in this thread being so advanced already. This trade definitely makes the Tigers the best all-around team in the division. They have finally added the starting pitcher they have been looking for all season and also finally found an identity at second base the position that has been a black hole production wise this year. That combined with a streaking Brennen Boesch makes them a very tough team to contend with for the rest of the season. However, the White Sox have an easier schedule than the Tigers do and are still in the wild card hunt so I am not too worried about us now completely missing the playoffs because of this move, this move simply makes us have to work even harder to reach the postseason this year.
